Hi guys
My take on it is that I don’t regard lap as a thing to do where I do not hang onto it for overly long periods. Just enough to punch.
Hopefully I’m understanding the details from Nick.
The lapper could in the first instance punch with the other hand. This removes the need for a counter. They could also gum as in second section of SLT…[Read more]

Hi guys
My opinion is as soon as the huen is felt by the person in the tan position they should go straight for the punch. In so doing it prevents the huen being able to continue into a low side palm or punch. Instead the huen needs to bong or get hit in the face.
Tan to punch needs to be aggressive.

Thanks Sifu
A lot of information there overall.
Definitely what has passed me by is thinking of being in an actual turn to an opponent when square on to the dummy.
I need to have a good look through the online videos or maybe any blogs to aid my understanding.
I like the attacking the attack concept and can recall you saying it numerous…[Read more]

Yes it makes sense. Thanks.
Another question regarding the die bong. When in the final destination of a die bong would I be correct in saying the other arm cannot punch because it’s out of range? Like the first section (tans and side palm other hand) Not the little test you describe (pak and palm strike with tan hand)or like the l…[Read more]

Hi Sifu hope you’re good.
I’m still at it btw but cannot make the Thursday classes.I have a question I can hardly put into words but I will give it a go.
It’s come about because I’m practicing the dummy as much as I can. I’m really trying to understand the key concepts of the dummy which I think is position and moving around an opponent.…[Read more]

Hi Nick I’m not answering your question but putting my own thoughts forward. I’ve never questioned why we change, rather I just accepted it because that’s what we are told.
I understand it to be for sensitivity, being dexterous with both hands. Comfortable in defence and attack on either hand. Knowing where the opportunities are because you’v…[Read more]

Hi Sifu, Nick
I haven’t finished thinking about it in all fairness, not that a response from me was needed.
We need to take responsibility for our own actions being the bit I’m thinking about. In general and in practice.
Being able to pair it up with empirical knowledge of failures when chi sau ing or doc sau is the difficult part. The que…[Read more]

hi Sifu
if spelled correctly I hope you understand what it is I have titled the post. the other way I have heard it is “lost hand straight punch”.
there are a few things about this concept

it annoys me when told and in practicing
it takes practice to be able to do itI said the above as in my actual class there are times in chi sau when…[Read more]

Thanks Sifu.
I also think that the low hand on the garn could be me pushing the opponent off centre. Causing them to make a choice die bong or a punch as in Dan chi sau. (Taking my cue from Bui gee) I also think I could add a punch from the low hand of the garn to again cause a reaction. As in punch with the right step to the right to dominate…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
Lesson 7.7, starting with the die bong, tan, bong, biu, jum, gum
I was practicing this lesson today with my daughter. I also like to try and get to it from poon sau. So I decided that the fook hand was going to punch and cause the die bong for one of us. Thinking about what you say about Dan Chi Sau and a good opportunity for a turning…[Read more]

Thanks for the offer to ask a question.
Questions I may have?honestly I can’t think. But there will be loads to perfect. I read your response to Nick on his Chum kiu. Will pay attention to that and advice given to o…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
I don’t think I will be able to make a live class for a while.
My go to class has changed nights from Wednesday to Thursday. At least for the time being. We actually hire a squash court and Wednesday has gotten rather busy where as it used to be ultra quiet. Thursday is the new Wednesday.
Could I ask that you provide the best way to a…[Read more]
