Hi Sifu
Another question for you please.
The garn on the dummy as we come into closing just prior to the cow say and palm strike. The low hand on the farm you describe as going under the third arm, kinda like a huen. Why is that please? I do do it all the time without issue but why do we do it rather than going straight for the palm strike…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
This one is from my local class and I’m asking because I was a little bit peeved by something I was told.
Before I get there though I want you to know I’ve really been practising the siu lim tau 30 minutes at a time basically As often as I can for a number of weeks.
So within there, I’m thinking a lot about my elbow and making sure…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
Thought I’d share my thoughts after reading this blog https://wingchun.online/its-all-in-the-posture/ because it’s something you have pointed out to me in the live classes.
Keeping my chin up. After realising what is going on with myself I can say it’s not just my chin it’s my back due to my hip position. I’ve worked out that anterior…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
Hope you are good.
I’ve been thinking about this question for a while but with regards to the dummy. I’m still not sure of the exact words needed to describe it.So I’ve just been doing Biu Gee and was struck by the feeling or position of my hips and it made me think of the dummy.
What I’m asking myself is are my hips turned to far.…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply.
I agree it’s a funny feeling but I’ve been trying to find a way. When I play the dummy I always do it left hand and right hand, therefore twice through in total minimum. I make the changes where necessary to ensure the right side is done the same as the left side. Which means I don’t have a difference on that garn once…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
I watched a Moy Yat video on YouTube the other day. Some parts I thought were extremely interesting
Moy Yat link – https://youtu.be/n7ldFIt38LE?si=muvPZQAi5-3eph5O
At 9:15mins he explains about the Garn Sau in the first section. It’s a rotation of the hips he says. Loved it as soon as I heard it.
Reason being – some weeks ago Nick p…[Read more]

Hi Marquis
I Will take a shot at the answer.
Because you are in a turned stance, or the destination of the finished bong. Therefore the incoming punch has been moved off centre with the bong and the turn. Without the turn the punch stays on the face.
There is also explanation here 7.8 Muk Yan Jong Fat (Wooden Dummy Technique) Section 1 ,…[Read more]

Hi Sifu
Got a question on Kwun Sau.
I got lapped crossed and trapped in class the other day and there were a few things that come out of that for me, as well as being told not to use the bottom hand to try and do something on the opponents non lapping hand.1. Told to use my shoulder.
I’ve been told before, I know this.I had forgotten w…[Read more]

Cheers Duanne. I can only imagine you were thinking of your younger wilder days when reading the title.
Thanks for the uses of the bong that you suggested or use.
I definitely use the bong as a defensive tool but I like how it feels when I know the punch is coming and I attack it with the bong.
Some practice on the high garn and bong will…[Read more]

Hi Sifu, everyone
I’m wondering about the different bongs.
Why and where will they be used?
To explain I can think of three instances on the wooden dummy of different bongs. Although my question is not necessarily a wooden dummy question.
Section 1 – already in a turning stance and bong
Section 6 – turning into a bong
Section 8 – stepping i…[Read more] -

Hi Sifu
Hope you are good.
A bit of a rambling question this one.I’m coming to realise I do not like being perfect in chi sau. I’m preferring to have errors
What I also don’t like doing is stopping rolling because of an error, correcting and proceeding again because I’m perfect again.
Within all of that I’m then thinking if my bong is c…[Read more]
