Elbows Or Hands (When and why) Part 1 (of 2)

We’re not all MADE the same,

So maybe we don’t all ROLL the same?

This week I started my Leeds class with the intention of covering some basics (never a bad thing to return to from time to time), and began the session by asking the students to play Poon Sau (Rolling arms), with the idea of my checking everyones’ changes while rolling.

It was at this stage that I realised there was an element within the rolling, of being a little, ‘wooden’ and some students not really emphasising any difference between the use of the elbows, and the use of the hands, almost as if a mannequin were playing Chi Sau.

This was when I decided to address the difference between when and why, we choose to focus on the elbows or focus on the hands.

The video clip below is taken from that particular class, I hope you’re able to get something from it.
