Hi guys
My opinion is as soon as the huen is felt by the person in the tan position they should go straight for the punch. In so doing it prevents the huen being able to continue into a low side palm or punch. Instead the huen needs to bong or get hit in the face.
Tan to punch needs to be aggressive.

I think you are right on here Duane, note for note! 😀

If I’m understanding correctly, instead of the person in Tan Sau performing a Huen Sau to recover center; they are trying to match the force with force.
If that’s correct, I would say that instead of the Fook Sau forcing the change via Huen Sau, I’d allow the attempted matching force to force the change from Fook Sau to Tan Sau via the Huen…[Read more] -

Greetings Sifu,
During our training here, I have seen a problem arise that I believe needs to be addressed. In summary, while rolling in Poon Sau, when a change is initiated from the fook sau position (pushing down), the person holding the Tan is naturally reacting by tensing and lifting.
My initial response has been Luk Sau Jic Kuen. This…[Read more]

😂😂😂 Wow! Feisty! 😂
Thank you for this. What a great story, which I know I’ll enjoy passing along when the question comes!
Speaking of the second section of Chum Kiu, everyone here always loves the explanation that comes with the closing technique that “has no name”, except now there is another link… lol.

Sifu Ip Chun plays the Form WITH the gums, when I asked him about this he simply said that he was sick of explaining. 🙂
He also said a similar thing when playing the 2nd sec of Chum Kiu, with Bong to Tan/guard (not the checking of centre) when I asked him why he didn’t check centre he said, “After playing this Form fr 50 years, I think I know…[Read more]

Thank you for (always) a great class Sifu.
This is the topic you were referring to during our training. Just as an observation here, in the video, the double gums are being applied. It seems to me this is precisely the point you were stating… “it is vital” to its understanding, even though they have been removed.
I will remind you Thursday if…[Read more]

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Can you offer some insight into why the young man in the video added them and do you advise that we play with it sometime, to simply better understand application even though they were removed?
This is such a great video! It has me thinking.
Thank you!!!!!!

My word, that young lad looks good! 🙂
The extra gums you refer to were taken away by Ip Man as part of the overall, reduction, of Wing Chun, well before Sifu had studied this.
Such as making all the elbows in Biu Gee, Kup Jarn instead of adding additional info through varying angles (i.e. Gwoi Jarn 45 degree and Pie Jar being horizontal), also…[Read more] -

Sifu,
When we’re the extra gums removed from the wooden dummy form of section 7 & 8?
If I may ask, was this a simplification made by you or Si-gong. I’m just wondering so I can pass along accurately. 😀
You might want to sit down before watching this flashback! 😀
Thank you!!!!

So I guess that means I passed the first assessment? I was still awaiting the results because you never stated if I passed or not lol. But glad to know I passed.
And no worries Si-Fu. I know your busy with family and pretty much running two schools (the physical school and the online school). You definitely cleared up the answer to my question in…[Read more] -

Hi Marquis,
I do not know why I had not replied to this for so long, very sorry.
Regarding the certificate, we had some design changing ideas and therefore had not printed the new ones, I will get onto this even if it sits as a temporary design (at least that way you’d have two of them!).
During this weeks Thursday class, I believe I did answer…[Read more]

Thanks Lee for sharing that blog. It definitely answered my question. I’ll continue my studies in that order. I mean I should’ve just been following the modules like I’ve been doing anyways lol. Thanks!

Si-Fu and Kung Fu family I hope you all are well. I still haven’t received my grading for the Siu like tao assessment from last March Si-Fu. But on another note, as I’m moving along through the modules I’ve made it to module 11 where I noticed that we start on the baat jam dao. My question is for Si-Fu what made you put the baat jam dao before biu…[Read more]

To be honest, I had deliberately delayed it due to deciding to redesign the presentation.
I will finalise this very soon and send them out.
Thank you for reminding me and sorry for the delay.
