I’d re-emphasize the point that we are NOT training to do the lap in this exercise. In fact, just about everything from the perspective of the person performing the lap is incorrect.
I think you’re right on with, this being a “drill” and that we wouldn’t just sit there; there will be a follow up attack. The follow up attack being from the…[Read more] -

Duanne Silver started the topic Aggressive/Passive Tan Sau in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 7 months ago
As I’m going through different techniques and their passive and aggressive applications, I had a thought on tan sau that I’d like to get clarification on or possibly validation.
A tan is a tan; its strength comes from its structure and there a little bit of moving out of the away of the attack and a little bit of moving the attack out of the…[Read more] -

If I’m understanding correctly, instead of the person in Tan Sau performing a Huen Sau to recover center; they are trying to match the force with force.
If that’s correct, I would say that instead of the Fook Sau forcing the change via Huen Sau, I’d allow the attempted matching force to force the change from Fook Sau to Tan Sau via the Huen…[Read more] -

So I guess that means I passed the first assessment? I was still awaiting the results because you never stated if I passed or not lol. But glad to know I passed.
And no worries Si-Fu. I know your busy with family and pretty much running two schools (the physical school and the online school). You definitely cleared up the answer to my question in…[Read more] -

Thanks Lee for sharing that blog. It definitely answered my question. I’ll continue my studies in that order. I mean I should’ve just been following the modules like I’ve been doing anyways lol. Thanks!

Si-Fu and Kung Fu family I hope you all are well. I still haven’t received my grading for the Siu like tao assessment from last March Si-Fu. But on another note, as I’m moving along through the modules I’ve made it to module 11 where I noticed that we start on the baat jam dao. My question is for Si-Fu what made you put the baat jam dao before biu…[Read more]

I’m having some difficulty understanding what we are trying to achieve by feeding the punch into the pak. -

Not at all Sifu. In fact, there probably is a video for this already. I have just overlooked it.
Without knowing what to ask or in this case what to look for, it can be easy to feel like I’ve taken in everything from a particular session and move on to the next.
In any case, if there is some question that arises while watching the videos,…[Read more] -

The information that is available here is undeniable!
“Everything in WingChun can be found here, if you know where to look.”This has been tested many times over!
I only bring it up in this particular thread because I was looking for this exact description.
As I’m going through these lessons once again, I’ve noticed even more things that I’ve…[Read more]

Thank you again Si-Fu for the feed back on my wooden dummy form. Also, just wanted to let you know that I still haven’t received my assessments results from back in March. The year is almost over and I planned to do one assessment a year if possible. You can post the results here if that’s easier for you.

Well that’s great to hear!
And while we are on the subject of Sarm Bak Mar drills; when we “over-committ” just a little bit to allow a follow-up attack, are we over-committing with just our hand, our hand and shoulders, or hand, shoulders and hips? -
Duanne Silver started the topic Dok Sau in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 11 months ago
Just so I have a better understanding in regards to dok sau, would dok sau essentially be fan sau with the allowance of fan sau by your training partner after their initial attack? Perhaps it is even what we are training in our virtual sparring sessions so that we get comfortable with what is available to us after an attack.

I had a thought on training Sarm Bak Mar drills virtually; similar to virtual sparring.
Using SBM with single pak saus seems like a feasible training exercise to utilize virtually. We could quite possibly even expand into threes, fives, and sevens. I think this would would give students an opportunity to test their SBM abilities while engaging…[Read more] -
