Sifu, like usual, I’m not sure how to ask this question. I really started pondering it during class today when you presented some instruction.
In summary, I cannot say as of yet that I have found a comfortable rolling in poon sau. Some of the issues I’m facing are:
1) Tight and tired shoulders the longer I roll.
2) if I roll relaxed, my elb…[Read more]

Hi Michael,
I imagine you are referring to Biu Mar, in which case yes this is wrong, and a bad habit.
There is only one thing I can say about this and it would be to practice more.
The rules are simple (as is Wing Chun), to go forward, move the front foot first, to go backwards move the back foot first.
Trying to close the gap quickly,…[Read more]

Hi Sifu,
I have question: I on occasion to many to mention, always seem to step in with the back foot, When trying to close the gap.
It’s a bad habit. Recently while trying to do a pac, strike, and trap and strike, move in rear foot first. I know it’s wrong but it’s a bad habit, any suggestions to clean this bad habit up?.
Thank you Sir.…[Read more] -

Welcome to the family Jason!
I must say, that is the PERFECT reason for wanting to train with us, often students may leave when they find a school to attend, but, it is never a bad thing to see different perspectives or have cross references.
Best of luck with the training and let us know if you need anything.

Sometimes the heavier knife can help in the swing of the technique, and especially in those sections, practice makes perfect.
The added weight would also stop you bouncing the tip of the blade in the punches.
Try using the heavy knives but starting with sec 8 and playing the sections in reverse order, that way you’re not tired at the pieces…[Read more]

Hello,
My name is Jason, and currently I live in Tokyo.
I am starting wing chun locally and my goal with online is to supplement my learning outside class and honestly since I am not taking classes in my native language I am hoping for supplemental understanding online.
I tried Chinese martial arts years ago and am excited to get back after it.…[Read more] -

As to the garns that you mentioned. This seems to me like a good example of how the swords accentuate the position. I took a look and can see how that right garn is misaligned redirecting back to centerline?
Is this an accurate understanding?

Ha….ha! When I stepped in section 8, I knew it immediately. I was hoping you wouldn’t notice. 😬 However, I am so glad you do. Thanks for all these points. I will take them and keep working to refine!
Observation…
I have a nice pair of knives that I have been training with that just seem to get heavy come section 7 & 8. For this reason I used…[Read more]

I looked at the blog and watched the video (I enjoyed watching that!) but to answer your question after seeing it… no.
I would say its not the same, in the dummy I was showing how to stick, but in the chi sau I was showing how to deflect.
The Tan is not trying to draw them in, it is their attack which is doing that
There is a connection with…[Read more]
