My husband who has had years of martial arts training has a longer reach than I do. He can stand outside of my range and be able to reach me before I could use a strike within my range. His range is a foot beyond mine at arm length (long distance). I could deflect a strike from him, but he is still out of a strike range.
My husband was the one,…[Read more]

Hi Colin,
In the Form there is only one kick as it is used to bring us back to a square stance, however, in training, you should step to your left side and practice this with the right kick too.

Dear Sifu,
I am learning the final section of Chum Kiu and wondered why there was only one kick at the end of the form and not another on the other side.
Regards and thank you

Wow! after almost a year and a half of training, I finally felt the
ENERGY that Sifu talks about. While doing S.L.T ; I felt an energy,
in my elbows that I cant explain.
I cant explain the feeling but yes it was so good to acquire it. -

I may have answered this in your other post question?
In general, keep contact with the wrists, you might adjust from time to time and play around but never hold on with your palms, this would be dangerous and lazy. 🙂

Fook Sau to Ding Sau, whichever position, the rules are the same, do not hold with the palm of your hand.
Sometimes you ‘may’ see me do this, but please do as I say, not as I do, if ‘I’ do this, there is going to be a reason for it, most likely trying to get a reaction from my partner, OR, trying to readjust (AKA correcting), their arms.

Thank you Si-Fu! That means a lot. Means I’m headed in the right direction with my training. Those points are definitely in my notes and I will be working on them before a do my end of the year upload of my forms. I should be in class on Thursday. I’m sure I’ll have questions about these notes so I’ll definitely ask about it haha. Thanks again

If you ever fancy popping over to Leeds sometime, do let me know.
I live in Northampton so I have a 2.5hr, 150 mile journey to do every week, so I know the distancing well. 🙂
