Just a little addition to what I’ve said already.
This morning I re-read you earl question, where you say,
‘When I shift my weight during the turning stance to my left or right leg, should I not lean over too much so I stay close to my opponent?’I should have seen the problem then!
In short, shift the weight yes, but do not lean.
Oh and,
‘I…[Read more] -

Hi Frank!
I wrote this reply over 8 hours ago and just noticed that I’d closed the page without pressing send!
Anyway, here goes again. π
Regarding WSL, everyone is different in their preferences and choice of use, this is all.
Great example:
Ip Ching is very strong and uses power in this same way but when I asked him about his WC style…[Read more] -

Hi Frank,
I thought I’d look a little, then comment a little;
When he starts talking he is correct and has a good stance.
He talks of turning on the toes being wrong and the danger of leaning forward, 100% agree.
But then at the 1.20 mark he demonstrates an attack at a ridiculous range?
His partner steps up to a correct and realistic range…[Read more] -

Had to watch it, and he’s correct.
What you said is not what he said. :-)))
He’s right to NOT turn on the toes but to turn from ‘the back of the foot’, but also if you look he is doing what I just told you to do:
‘When sitting back the buttock should be over the heel, this is perfect, if the base of the spine is over the heel, this is too…[Read more]

Without watching the video yet, I would say in short, NO.
This bit;
‘it takes you further away from the opponent you are suppose to be close to to strike.’The only reason for a turn is to avoid a strike, NEVER to gain reach, although there is the advantage of a 3rd extra distance when you do. If you have to turn in order to reach someone you…[Read more]

Hi Jacob,
Thanks for getting back to me. I see you’re no stranger to the arts then! π
Of course I would be happy to come and visit you sometime, and of course this can be arranged.
Perhaps the best thing would be for you to first form a group so that you can all train under the same direction, that way when I offer my personal teaching you…[Read more]

I found the blog you referred to, that post would be somewhere deep within the Facebook group now (well August anyway). π
You’re in the UK aren’t you?
Whereabouts are you, I’m sure you would be able to join us sometime at seminars etc here?
The fees I related to then where for me to come to you, your school or your training group, may I ask…[Read more]

Hi Jacob,
Firstly may I thank you for your politeness, very appreciated.
I see three options here;
1/
Your attitude to overcommitting is correct, and skill should minimise this, however, s**t happens.
Who is to say that in the heat of the moment, half way through a step whilst in an aggressive game, that there’s not the possibility of being a…[Read more] -

Hi Jacob,
To start this, I agree, it should be thought of as a strike, ‘Should there be a gap’ or a Tan, ‘Should there be an attack thrown at you’.
Basically we are looking at this as an attacking defence.
Not to just sit back and hope for the best, but to attack the attack. (Too much trust is often placed in the structure, if this was to be…[Read more] -

HA! Mathew!
That’s great, thank you for the support, and for giving me a good laugh this morning. π
And Marc,
Very well put, and I do agree exactly with what you say, physically a martial artist is often easy to pick up moves, but it is mentally where the blockages occur.
Here’s to the future my friends.

Marc and Brian!
I found it, thank you.
For some reason the basic approach to this is in Module 5 – Siu Lim Tau β Section 3, Part 2 (along with 1, 2 and 4). Please take a look.
I will make time when next adding videos (I’ve lots to add), to check the running order has not been further affected during our recent switch over to the new p…[Read more]
