Sifu —
I am going through the lap sau excercise in biggner module 1 last lesson,
why are we keeping our punch at top level , if you see in this video too, the punch is not straight, normally if bong sau is used to defend straight punch ( i believe, we dont use bong sau to defend punch ,instead, to come into bong sau, you have to punch too, when two hands collide if opponent has more strenght we conevert our straight punch to bong sau and deflect — correct me if my understanding is wrong).
once bong sau we try to deflect the punch , we use lapsau to pull down the punch , but they dont need to hit our face, they hit our chest. if they do how do we defend from bong sau?
Could you please explain me

Interestingly, all my questions are answered in 1.3 basic punches 🙂 , the circular motion, the hammer fist.
@Sifu – Thank you for the detailing. Instead of asking all my questions, I think first i need to write down and see all your videos 🙂 , they will be automatically answered. Thank you so much. -

Sorry for the bad title..basic misspelled
Is that the punch range, correct ? And thats the max extension we can go right? Anything beyond as we need to use kicks.

Hello Benjamin, I think it may be our day light savings, 7pm gmt+1 is our 12pm cst..but class started at 1pm cst. I thought it may be gmt time( not plus 1) or our day light savings.

Thank you for response, I am located in Frisco,Texas, United States. Please do let me know if i can meet any one near by.
one more question is , while doing the chain punch or straight punch, is it normal to have a bend at the wrist , right before you hit the target , as we need to hit with last three knuckles, there is a natural bend at the end of the punch, i believe this adds up more power? or is it that i am doing a mistake? Could you help me understand plz.

just completed basic punches, its not the power, its the energy that we generate with relaxing hands, Understood. thank you so much

Thank you so much Sifu, will practice as you suggested, one more thing is every time i revisit the basic punches, I am learning new things( the points i missed before ) . like you said, the force is from elbow, not from wrist. very well said, very well explained. Thank you so much , looking forward for more practice.

I hope this message finds you well.
I kindly request that the thread I started on the forum be removed:
I now realize the forum is intended for discussing concepts, whereas my post was more of a Q&A. At the time, I wasn’t sure how to reach you directly, but I’ve since discovered I can contact you through this channel.
Lately, I’ve been revisiting the basics—particularly the straight punch. I think I may have overcomplicated it. I was visualizing the chain punch like a bicycle chain, with my punches rising and landing on the target, which led me to use the “giant wheel” analogy. But I now understand the punch should be more direct, like a standard straight punch.
Could you please clarify:
Should the punch travel straight forward without the thumb side facing up?
Is it correct that I shouldn’t twist the wrist upward at the end of the punch?
Thank you for your guidance and for your time.
Warm regards,

@Sifu,
Thank you for your response.
While practicing chain punches, I’ve noticed two different wrist mechanics. In one method, my wrist lifts slightly during the punch, and at the moment of contact, the bottom three knuckles tend to land. It feels like the wrist pulls back just before impact.
In the second method, I begin the punch with a kind of emotional tension — almost like pulling the wrist back with intent — and then release it forward. As the punch comes down, the wrist dips slightly again. It reminds me of a giant wheel: there’s movement at the top and again at the bottom.
I’m trying to understand which of these wrist motions is correct or expected in proper chain punching. Is this kind of wrist rotation part of the technique, or should it be more neutral?”
The other way to express is like its like punch is landing like how gaint wheel…cabin lands while going up down. Could you guide me plz
