    Hi Sifu

you’ve just finished the Thursday zoom class 13/05/2021 where before the Siu Lim Tau ending, Nick was asking about the finish position of the Bong Sau.

part of your explanation was about holding a pole in front of you and the bong hand would be upside down or palm away grasp. or the edge of a door.

I hear that and will try to do…[Read more]

  • I think so.

I just recall grapple wrestling I used to do years ago. More Muay Thai clinch wrestling. I got really good at grabbing the neck and pulling my opponent forward. First section of dummy. I also got really good at winning the battle of getting the inside hand and arm position. So all attacks towards me were blocked. And I was able to…[Read more]

  • Thanks for the explanation Sifu.

I was wondering about the battle of will from the garn. Obviously I didn’t have the words for it. But I definitely imagined something like that on one occasion cos pressing against the dummy like that is a bit different.

The other thought I had with that though was that the opponents hand would be on the i…[Read more]

  • Hi Sifu

The first po pi to the centre of the dummy is started from the kwon sau. You describe pushing the opponent arm with the outside of mine before striking.

The third po pi which is to the centre of the dummy is started from a garn sau. You say push down on the dummy arm before striking.

    Why?

Every sections end is started from a garn…[Read more]

  • Hi Helen

Maybe 10.8 for section 6 and 11.1 for section 7

  • Brilliant thanks. I understand. I don’t have an option of heightening or lowering the dummy. The lower arm is my shoulder height.

They either sent me a faulty dummy or I’m a short ar*e.

It’s a blow up dummy and as much as I’d like to build a platform it won’t happen. I’ll just push the wrong arm up and out of the way so the blade of the hand…[Read more]

  • Hi Sifu

    While practicing dummy form.

The dummy I have is tall, the lower arm is still high to get my elbow over for a bong.

I’m then thinking push the elbow to the centre and up the middle of the arms to again perform the bong so my hand is under the what in reality is the same arm of the opponent. That does feel more comfortable and right.…[Read more]

  • Hi Sifu, everyone

I’ve been doing the wooden dummy for about a year now. With no dummy. Have been following the with dummy videos not the without dummy videos.
Got a blow up dummy now.
I’m noticing when doing the low bong I’m raising my shoulder. Which I reckon is incorrect.

Ideally where would I be placed in proximity to opponent or dummy?…[Read more]

Yeah I hear you. There is no feedback but it’s still very good for drills etc. I also get to hear the pointers given to others and the questions they ask. From my own point of view too your Thursday Wing Chun class clashes with my Thursday Shaolin class.

I have no choice but to do your class or miss it as there is no recording. The shaolin c…[Read more]

    Hi Sifu

Just wondering if you could record the zoom classes and upload them for watching any time. It would allow everyone regardless of time zone to benefit.

It’s definitely possible the shaolin kungfu I do uses zoom and they upload each live class onto their website. It’s a fantastic thing.

    Cheers

  • Hi Marc

I think this is the post with the videos

    Hi again Sifu

After a bit of thought on my question.

I think partly what I mean is….. Is the lap when carried out within chi sau taken under the bong an exercise purely for chi sau reasons.

A punch over the top maybe wouldn’t need a bong. You would go straight to the lap.

And where lap sau exercise has the lap carried out from above the b…[Read more]

    Hi Sifu

my question – are there times when the lap from the bong is taken from under the bong arm?

hope I’m getting across what I mean. I’m trying not to go into one as I feel it will confuse things.

    Many thanks

  • Hi Sifu

I agree they are all section 8 Knife form applications.

the assumption I am making is that videos within 14.4, section 8 would show the lap and kup jarn moving backwards with empty hands.

The first 2 videos above are from 15.4 Knife Form Chi Sau – Section 8
Knife Form Chi Sau Applications, Section 8 Part 1
Knife Form Chi Sau A…[Read more]

  • Hi Sifu

    thanks for the videos.
I don’t think they are the ones for the section 8 applications of the Knife form though.
The first two in the list you provided are from

15.4 Knife Form Chi Sau – Section 8
Knife Form Chi Sau Applications, Section 8 Part 1
Knife Form Chi Sau Applications, Section 8 Part 2

they don’t have the Sarm Bok Mar s…[Read more]

  • No problem Sifu.

    its no biggy
I just like to watch them from time to time and try to absorb.

  • Hi Sifu

The video for the above application is missing. I carried out a search of the site and cannot find it.

Are you able to make it available or provide the link to it?

    Many thanks

  • Nice one mate.
    Stick with it

    Hi Sifu, everyone

Thanks for the reply and words of wisdom. I agree with you and I wouldn’t be so caught up in thinking any combination was anything more than choreography.

It would be in addition not instead of.

The forms are choreographed and the repetition of doing them is getting me used to carrying out those moves. I would just like t…[Read more]
