How is everyone training Chum Kiu? Anyone pass the choreography stage? Anyone able to pull more out and take its teachings and apply to other skills for live play?
I’m currently putting SLT into Chum kiu. First experience shared root wasn’t there as well as wrong body mechanics in generating energy. Turning gotta be accomplished with the waist…[Read more]

I have been guilty of being seen as simply questioning, however the intent has always been to learn and understand. I cannot simply accept what is given without scrutiny. I apply this to all within my life as I focus on understanding deeper than surface level, as majority of individuals wish to remain. There have been very rare occasions that a…[Read more]

I have been reviewing the recording for 20251124. Nick brought up a great idea and it had connected with my own training.
While studying the content, I noticed the emphasis on the three directions. I quite agree on there being three, but what I found puzzling is an emphasis on directional expression. Sifu Ward contributes the directions to the…[Read more]

The weight on hind leg forces an increase of effort. I’m not shifting forward to move backwards. I’m struggling to move backwards with this half step as majority of weight is on a single leg.
As for the term rhythm, I’m aware and agree on your description. However I seem to use an improper description. I am referring to the pace of the drill.…[Read more]

I am finding it a struggle to effectively move with the weight being 70/30 (most on back foot). The increase of weight on the back foot is demanding an increase of effort to move. There is a “stiffness” experienced creating a large delay in what is to be executed.
So long as the drill’s rhythm is slowed, this issue is absent. However when…[Read more]

Unfortunately, whats seen on the video achieves these. Only moments you’ve given praise, I’ve made the moments extreme. Which will create poor habits. Because I have pressure experience, i am utilizing these sensations to establish appropriate stimuli so I have no guess work.

If you could provide a video of your demonstrating the strike, it would clear up a lot of confusion. But I think I grasped your description.
Ive made a post with my doing SLT and you’ll be able to see what I mean regarding the strike.

I know a phenomenal, top notch school in Katy, but thats a ways travel. I’m in Indiana. If youre ever in the state, hit me up.
Regarding the vertical strike, there’s something called Chung di luk, locking position. When you make a fist, bend the wrist by tilting the fist thumb side towards yourself. This will give way for improved shape,…[Read more]

To recheck whats being learned, you’ll need a knowledgeable partner. Youre absolutely right in poor habits trained will develop poor responses and reactions. Even so much to create opportunities for getting yourself hurt.

Only dumb question is the one not asked. When new to something, ask as often as possible. You’re building skill from nothing. Ask often, this is one of the primary methods to learn.

The less questions is more so due to the lack of having an opportunity to share. The rest is reflective of me keeping to myself as the answer resides in actual physical touch. Much of what I see is confusing. This is due to I’m not presented with a real stimulus. So my mind has to brandis a guess and fill the blanks.
I’ve solved much with my own…[Read more]

First and foremost, my attendance lately being partial is due to impact with personal employment.
Secondly, I’ve noticed the Monday classes there is a Q/A for input and reflections while the Thursday it’s straight into whatever lesson was planned.
Is there reasoning behind this? Or is this based on the attendance culture? Essentially, this is…[Read more]

Upon further evaluation and discussion with a general class on Thursdays, i had come to the realization the discrepancy I’m experiencing, is that the Saam bok ma had an incorrect posture. This further is supported from biu ma. By adding the correct posture, the footwork achieved clarity.
This is a great example of taking a technique <sik>…[Read more]
