Enjoyed this weeks online class Sifu (I watched it offline – It means I can pause it and take notes:) Some of it was over my head but there were some good tips/advice there. Looking forward to the next one.

Hi Sifu, I’m a blast from the past (Who? Exactly Sifu! hehe)
Anyway, I just did my first online class (offline). I learned a lot and it was quite fun! I was doing beginner Ving Tsun lessons in London (Wong Shun Leung lineage so it has a tad different Siu Lim Tao) but they’ve been closed for 4 months now O_o so I drifted off a bit.
Hopefully they will reopen next week (he has to do the lessons outside to get around the lockdown rules). Anyway, I’m defo gonna look more at these online lessons from now on (probably offline as I work late during the week).
I found the pak’s on the punches very difficult to read..any tips / blogs on how to read the punches? And for the stepping exercise, where should I be looking at in trying to read your movements? Hips, shoulders? I got a few of those wrong! But I loved those two exercises as I realised how bad my reading and timing is!
Anyway..good stuff!
P.S. I hate facewank and their censoring nature…so I’m not on that anymore! Good old fashioned forum for me then!

Hello Sifu and members,
My name is Ashley and I’m a tad fat and a tad unfit 47 year old south Londoner! Hehe! I’m unemployed and have been drinking too many beers of late (to kill the ‘boredom’) and to be honest, I just got fed up with that. Therefore, I decided I wanted a positive focus in life, saw the course and signed up. I’m not signing up to be Bruce Lee or a start a million fights :), I’m signing up to have a positive focus in life and it looks great by the way. I just got as far as Yee Gee Kim Yuen Mar – Part 2 and suddenly realised how massively tight my legs, calf’s and ankles are. (I used to cycle a lot) Turning the feet 45 degrees in is quite tough for me so I guess I’ll need to work on stretching my legs a lot first! Anyway, I’m very happy with my purchase and look forward to working through the videos. Thanks for making the course affordable, so many courses price me out, so I’m a happy camper! -

Thanks for the Mo Jong search Sifu,
There’s some blogs I do need to read through. I’ve also contacted them about the dummy.
Cheers. I’ll leave you alone now!

Ah! Ignore that last bit on the hand exercises. I just looked at the videos following the wall bag (1.3). My bad! Cool! I’ll get to it!

Hi Sifu.
I went with rice in the end (to fill the wall bag) At 45p a bag from Sainsbury’s, it only cost £3.80 to fill (8.5KGs) so that’s very cheap. Chick peas were very pricey. Plus, I love the texture of hitting boiled rice…
If the blow up love doll of death is £50 P&P, I’ll have one. At £135, (as advertised on the site) that’s a bit too much. I also don’t have a car so I couldn’t come and collect anything. How much would P&P to London be for your friends product?
BTW, is there a part of the course that just practices hand movements? I’ve been slowed down a lot by being unable to stand in the basic stance position (I was super tight in the shins and thighs) and then by having to order a wall bag (and wait for delivery) filling it and now I need to borrow a drill to attach it. It’s been a slow start. I didn’t want to rush ahead but it might be nice to have some other non bag / dummy stuff at the beginning to practice on while newbies like myself attempt to order and get kit etc.
Just a thought!
Cheers

Hi Sifu,
Thanks for your suggestion on chick peas. I did as you said, the only trouble was, as soon as I hit the bag, the water from the canned chick peas sprayed out and hit me in the eye. I had to spend 8 hours in A&E last night.
Hehe..I’m just joking, I haven’t filled it with anything at the moment..I need to get head out of backside, been a bit slack. I’ll use dry chick peas then.
Yes, the dummy’s are all very pricey. Your inflatable dummy is now £135. That’s quite a lot for a blow up doll! I’d love a wooden one to be honest but I need to fall back and focus on punches first. I’m going to take it all one step at a time!

That would be good sifu. I won’t wear my Millwall top in Leeds though, otherwise I’ll need all my Wing Chun skills to survive lol 🙂 Can I ask, what do you think of these plastic dummies? I have a cold downstairs tiny ‘basement’ so I think a wooden dummy would probably die due to the cold. I’m also conscious of the noise of a wooden dummy in my flat. Although, its very early days still. To be honest, I have no idea about dummies!

Ok. Let’s do it then. My three section wall bag punch thingy came today. So once I’ve plonked in 10KGs (my lord) of rice and figured out how to attach the sodding thing to the wall, I can get punching practice!

Hi Lee
I live on the Bromley / Lewisham border. Medway Kent, man that’s miles away! I did a quick google, there are a few Wing Chun classes in Kent (see below). I’m right at the beginner stage at the moment (like, right at the start!) so I’m probably pretty crap at the moment. My next goal is to buy a ‘wall bag’ and then start with punching to that. Anything else is probably beyond my capability at the moment. I’ve got a job interview tomorrow so, I’ll see how that goes as if i get it, I’ll have a lot less free time to play with. If you’re uber desperate, then pencil me in, but otherwise I reckon pop down to one of those clubs in Kent and you should be able to find a partner to practice with.

Hello Sifu. Thanks for the reply.
I’m up to the wall bag videos now (I’ve been leg stretching for about a week as I was uber tight) Do you have any recommendations / links on which ones to buy?
Should it be filled with sand and (sorry for the dumbo question 🙂 ..
What’s the best way to put them up?I’ve also applied to join the private FB group and I’m currently ‘pending’ at the moment.
Thanks
Ashley
