How far can I get with the online training without a partner? I can get my son involved here and there, but he’s not very interested in martial arts at the moment. I’m mostly interested in the unarmed aspect of wing chun. I’ve been slowly going through module 1. I have previous martial arts experience and so picking things up visually comes easy.…[Read more]

Hi Pip,
If you go to 18.8 in the course progression, Sifu goes through all eight sections.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ben,
A sense of flavour is an interesting description, it also makes me think of a sense of flamboyance, which is rarely ever for the better.
Ip Man said,
“Anyone can add on to a system, the secret is to try to take away, and still keep it pure”.What I teach is Ip Man Wing Chun, exactly as he taught to his eldest son, Ip Chun.
I try to…[Read more]

I’ve learned lineage provides a sense of flavor. It is also a great experience of learning to establish how WC families are connected.

Correct Lester.
Benjamin, I am surprised you would need to ask the question of lineage?
As for other schools, we are not connected with them but we do show respect to them, especially the ones who have been kind in the past.
By this I mean Ip Ching, Wong Shun Leung, Chu Shong Tin and other, who have all been gracious with their time and…[Read more]

If Wing Chun comes from Shaolin, then it does indeed already hold true these methods.

Upon further evaluation and discussion with a general class on Thursdays, i had come to the realization the discrepancy I’m experiencing, is that the Saam bok ma had an incorrect posture. This further is supported from biu ma. By adding the correct posture, the footwork achieved clarity.
This is a great example of taking a technique <sik>…[Read more]

I am presently reviewing the kicks and footwork videos and with personal training. I have a bit of confusion on intent presented if any could provide the clarifications.
The saam bak ma footwork I cannot fathom for usage and I cannot recall, nor locate, the video providing any purpose. Within competitions, this type of footwork has only caused…[Read more]

I believe the lineage associated with this school is Ip Chun. So it would look something like this:
Leung Yee Tai > Dr. Leung Jan (Leung Tak Wing) > Leung Bik > Ip Man 葉問 (Yip Gai-Man) > Ip Chun 葉準 > Colin WardOf course, the more senior students / Sifu Ward would know better than me.

I was wondering of the lineage associated to this school. Are there connected schools into other families?

Hey Jeffrey,
Welcome, and there’s actually a pretty big group in Lancaster, PA (https://www.lancasterwingchun.com/).I’m from Chicago, but I will be stopping by there for the April 25-27 seminar on Chi Sao. I think we also have another member there in Lebanon, but I don’t want to speak for him.
