Hi Richard,
I just wanted to check in with you for an update.
First of all, PLEASE accept my apologies for this mess up, as I said, the tech guy did fix the problem, but the big down side is that we do not know where your videos have gone.
Please tell me that you still have them available for a reload?
Hopefully this has not soured your…[Read more]

Hey Seth, you’re welcome,
So if i stand to the left of the dummy with the one dummy arm straight on, and use a pak sau near the tip, that would translate to my left hand, pak sau to the inside wrist?
Correct
Which is why standing in front of the dummy, you would do a right arm bong sau to the left arm of the dummy, since you want to be on the…[Read more]

Thank you for that Sifu!
So it seems then that it depends on the angle you are to the dummy and how that would translate to an actual strike from an opponent. So if i stand to the left of the dummy with the one dummy arm straight on, and use a pak sau near the tip, that would translate to my left hand, pak sau to the inside wrist? Which is why…[Read more]

Hi Seth,
The main (and easy) answer is to tell you that it is for training positions, it is also there to help you to move around your opponent while keeping close and tight, it is NOT there for conditioning your arms.
I wonder if you may find this blog of help, just type:
THE ‘SECRET’ OF THE DUMMY FORM
into the search engine at the top rig…[Read more]

Sifu,
I was wondering what the purpose of the wooden dummy was. Seems a bit off, for example, pak sau on the inside of the arms is really pak sau on the outside, and the fact that the arms are reversed, my left is the dummies left (if that makes sense 😄). I have been reading a book called ‘the Tao of wing chun’ and it was saying that the dum…[Read more]

Thank you. Between this forum, the encouragement and the insight, along with the blog post and todays class, I am totally saturated with such great teaching, ideas and perspectives… WOW!
Thank you Sifu.
Thank you Lee.
I hope I can recover. 😀
I am going to have to ponder all this for a while.
Cheers gents. A very Merry Christmas to you…

Hello Sifu,
Are you sure the Tech guy didn’t get rather hungry, and this is all not an elaborate plot to hide his having consumed them himself in a midnight feast???
They must’ve been pretty riveting if so!!!
🙂🙂🙂
Best regards,

Hey Nick,
In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve posted the blog I was referring to, unfortunately I realised after committing myself to it, that I have covered much of this in the past, but I did manage to add a few points to the principle this time, and it is always nice to share these things with our wider family.
Hope you get something from…[Read more]

A great contribution there Lee, thank you.
That is certainly the traditional way to learn, and I agree with your methods, as you are so far on now, perhaps you may also try running the forms in reverse, this way the higher end (as it were) of the system will benefit from your freshness and clarity of mind, or maybe even your lack of a chance to…[Read more]

Hi Nick
With the exception of the pole form. I did the forms every day. Or what I mean is everyday I added a move or two at most. The objective being to remember each move in the sequence. I then drilled it to the point where I was either at the end of the moves I had reached at that time or if I forgot a move, no progression was made until I…[Read more]

Brilliant. Thank you.
In all honesty, the question comes from an old paradigm that plagues me. Spending years in the gym shaped my attitude around reps and muscle groups. (Example: Monday is arms, chest. Tues: legs, lats…)
But this is very different..
I mean even if we do every form everyday, that’s only 30 minutes training time? This lea…[Read more]

Hi Nick,
That is a wonderful question, and I did start to answer but then realised this is probably worthy of a blog, therefore for now… if I may, here is a short answer just to give you something to train at present.
Playing them in sequence is always a good idea but that does often mean that if we run out of time then the SLT has had more…[Read more]

Sifu,
Do you have any recommendations as to how to approach training in respect to our forms. Do you recommend we do each form (that we know) everyday and then pick one to drill and improve? And then prioritize the learning of new skills?
Or do you have other suggestions?
Simply put, how would you like us to train the “as well as”?
Thank you!
Always

Sifu,
In reference to your comments, am I correct in saying that there are six 45 degree garns that require the 50/50 stance:
• Two in section one
• Two in section two
• Two in section fourThe other sections use the Garn from
Cheun Mar?I’ve watched my form and yours repeatedly and see where it’s easy to get lazy with these. However I…[Read more]

Hi Sifu,
I’m happy to get these files to you another way if it’s helpful and takes this matter off your plate. It’s possible your tech support get beamed up instead? 🙂
