Hi Sifu:
Thank you for the guidance. It makes perfect sense. My turning punch is much better. Now practice and more practice.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum family,
Firstly, I do like your way of getting to grips with the training, a good idea.
As for your question…
Let me start by saying that it is not the ‘feet’ that turn 45, but the hips.
You will probably find that the back foot does not turn as much as the front foot, or perhaps I should say, as much as the…[Read more] -

Hi Sifu:
I went through some modules to get a feel for the concepts. I am now going back over all the modules and putting the into action. I have my first question. I understand in Cheun Mar you angle your feet 45 degrees, then sink your knees to ground and lean back. Can you please explain the differences between Cheun Mar and Biu Mar? Does the…[Read more]

I do tend to wait until the videos are all in and, then watch them together, this way I can see general consistencies of where things are good or may need work.
It won’t be long, good luck and thank you.

And that last point is precisely why I’ve been studying TCM. I want to understand the physical mechanism that underpins what we’re learning here. To gain an insight into how to better myself that I may continue to learn well into the future.
Just wondering if there were any others here, too, that travel this well-trod path.

I often followed the idea that you cannot serve two masters (disciplines), although my thoughts on this have changed over the years.
Wing Chun to me is a natural understanding of your body and of the arts, therefore I do believe that we use it as a blueprint for all other styles.
If you remind me on Monday, I will make a video blog on this for…[Read more]

Sometimes it is nice to be able to repair an opponent after you have just destroyed them, joking aside though, there does tend to be an interest develop in those who decide to look after themselves through the arts, to want to take it further.
Often I find that this is just to acquire a deeper understanding of what you are doing already???

Today I tried BJJ for the first time. My brother’s a white belt and gold medalist in his weight class (not the best instruction, but free and easy), and I asked him to teach me some fundamentals with the aim of using Wing Chun as a lens. The two actually have some commonalities that surprised me, such as a guard escape being the side gaam sau that…[Read more]

I am currently in the tail end of a TCM tutorial at my uni, and was thinking about how many old masters of various styles were doctors, osteopaths, herbalists, and so on. My FMA guro is a respiratory specialist, my taekwondo saebom is a natropath. Medicine and martial arts tend to go hand in hand.
Does anyone here have an interest in medicine,…[Read more]
