Reverse Thinking In Drills

A change of view perhaps?

We all know the basic drills of Dan Chi Sau, Lap Sau exercise, Paks and possibly, Sarm Bok Mar (Three point stepping).

Sarm Bok Mar if you don’t know, is often not discovered until we see it used in the knife form, but is something I like to ficus on very early, especially as, like it or not, it’s what we use all the time when playing Chi Sau!

Now when I say, ‘We all know the basic drills‘, the thought here is not just that of repetition, but how can we keep it fresh and constantly rewarding?

We all also know that, ‘Practice makes perfect‘, unfortunately however, it does not, practice only makes permanent, it is only perfect practice that makes perfect, hence the need to keep drills fresh and avoid students falling into the act of the simple mundane repetition.

In the video below, I wanted to change the thinking behind some basics drills, turning the defending hands in attacking hands and vice versa.

Please excuse the poor quality of sound, but this video was not initially meant for any publishing purposes, I just thought you may like to see what we do and the creative approaches used within wingchun.online.

Thank you for watching.
