• Hi Dave, Hi Kit,

Both are good options but the best choice I find is dried chick peas.

Due to their size they spread evenly over the bag rather than smaller components like sand etc which will just drop and create a swell at the base.

These are also easier and cheaper to fill and when full, gives a very similar density to a torso.

    Kit, after…[Read more]

  • Excellent.

The perfect reason for a single bag!

Try to hang it so that where you are punching is at your chin height, this keeps it practical as well as working your arms (if you punch low it can make you lazy).

If you have different hooks this will allow you to change your height of opponent too.

  • Do let me know which bag you choose and why, I’m just curious. πŸ™‚

  • The type of wall bag is purely down to choice.

The idea of the three section bag is that you have the option of different height attacks, with the low bag being used for kicks, but sometimes you may find that if the top bag is set for punches then the low bag is too high for kicks, although this is easily corrected of course by just having two…[Read more]

  • Your Wing Chun in time will defend anything but do not try to beat a boxer with boxing, or a grappler with grappling, or a kicker with kicking, but allow your Wing Chun to change with whatever is in front of you.

    πŸ™‚

  • Hamdy,

    Are you training with boxer?

Do not try to cross styles in sparring, boxing has rules, we do not, the boxer would not like a kick to the knee or fingers in the eyes (DO NOT DO THIS).

But if you want to know how to defend the jab there are 4 fast answers.

1/ Pak Sau (if the punch is used)
2/ Do not be in range
    3/ Attack first
    4/ Kick the…[Read more]

  • Awesome, please keep me updated, I’m really interested to see how you get on.

  • Hi Mark,

    Not a bad try. πŸ™‚

Facebook is always a good place to start and I’ve also heard of people in the USA being successful with meetup.com and gumtree not sure if it’ll work for you but give it a try.

The guy that mentioned meetup.com to us said he got 6 buddies in his first week!

Let me know how you get on.

    Sifu

  • Great to finally see you here Hamdy.

And also welcome to Mark, I enjoyed your chat with Kit and thought I’d leave it over night so my name is not always the last one for a change.

Guys, just let me know what you need. πŸ™‚

    Sifu

  • Kit, you’re a star!

    You’ve got your own lightsaber?!

    Then why Wing Chun? πŸ™‚

Glad to have you onboard my friend and if you get more buddies, great, the more the better.

Just let me know if you need anything.

    Best wishes,

  • Hey Martyn that’s great news.

The mirror and bags are perfect, but no need to spend too much on a dummy yet (But they are great aren’t they?). πŸ™‚

Let me know if you need anything and if you ever find yourself across the boarder. I’m hoping to get some form of visiting lined up for next by way of group seminars etc. I’ll let you know when…[Read more]

  • Hi Kit and welcome!

I’d love to know a little about you, where you are, have you trained before, do you have buddies in place etc?

And of course anytime any of you guys find yourself in the UK we should definitely train together. πŸ™‚

Let me know if I can help you at all.

    Best wishes,

    Sifu.

  • Nice one Tommy πŸ™‚

  • HA!

    Tommy, I love it. πŸ™‚

You’re right about the punches Dave, one minute doesn’t sound a lot but going full guns is great for your chi sau stamina too.

    Keep it up.

  • Great news about your brother and a top idea of using Gumtree, I must advise others of that.

As for your brothers shifts, thats the good thing about online, the class is there when you are! πŸ™‚

  • Kidology, love it, that’s the first time I’ve ever heard anybody else use that term! πŸ™‚

Why spend money if you don’t have to?

Ng Mui never did when she was hiding in the mountains developing the system, it’s not like she just logged onto Amazon to get some equipment.

    Less the better I say.

Mirrors, great, wall bag, yes and when it comes to…[Read more]

  • Thomas! Hi!

No problem, thank you for the reminder about the dimensions, I’ll chase that up this week.

As for the rings, for me that’s a big NO, either metal or wooden.
Metal ones are used for strengthening, not needed in Wing Chun and actually will slow you down.
And the wooden rings are often used to show positions such as Garn Sau (pop it in…[Read more]

  • Hi Martyn and welcome!

Thank you for your kind words, that’s very nice of you to say so.

Good luck finding partners, have you tried your Facebook pals yet?

    Great place to start?
