Earlier today I mentioned to Amy in our FB group that I’d forgotten that tomorrow we were having a family get together for the anniversary of my fathers passing and that it was quite unlikely that there would be a ‘live’ session tomorrow (if you’ll forgive the pun π ).
I did try to tag you in the comment but it didn’t find you for some…[Read more]

Hi Nick,
A wonderfully simple question to which I will actually give you a video explanation later, as it is straight forward but could be lost in text only.
SO nice to see you looking well again and I LOVE! your training space.

Hi Peter and welcome to the family.
I will look more in to this tomorrow for you, but for now, have you looked at MY ACCOUNT and DOWNLOADS? There are some online training plans there you may find interesting.

You are SO right you would not believe it.
When I officially open my school in Feb 1991, I told my students that I didn’t want to teach them Wing Chun, I wanted then to learn it from/through me, there is a big difference between learning through self discovery and simple being spoon fed the information.
Of course if there is a question, I will…[Read more]

Sorry I didn’t get to see you in class but lost my voice, so explaining may have been trickier than I’d initially expected. π
It is very easy to explain something in principle, but when aggression and force are added to the mix, the variables become vast.
If intent is throughout the strike (street), then we say lap/fak.
If in chi sau, is…[Read more] -

‘Do you recommend a way to clear a bong sau to make way for a strike?’
This is too open to interpretation:
where is the other person
what are they doing
chi sau or fighting
where is your guard…..Perhaps we could look at this tonight??

Hey Lee,
I was thinking about your situation and wanted to post todays blog with you in mind, then remembered that the very things I wanted to mention had actually been posted a couple of years ago, therefore it was easiest to simply repost for you.
Do take a look as it may help you. π

Hi Lee,
Again, I will answer these points as I read them:
‘When in the final destination of a die bong would I be correct in saying the other arm cannot punch because itβs out of range?’
and
‘Not the little test you describe (pak and palm strike with tan hand)or like the last section where it is necessary to square up to put the strike in.’
I t…[Read more] -

SBM is working hands and feet, changing ranges etc. but also recovering centre, therefore we allow it to be lost in order to recover it, always make sure you know you are doing this deliberately and then the overcommitment will not become acceptable.

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Sarm Bok Mar in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 10 months ago
Everything, but as you say, just a little bit.
Please remember that we are not training ourselves to overcommit, we are training ourselves what do to do if we overcommit.

Hi Lee,
Missing seeing you but good to know you’re in the wings.
As this is a ling looking question, I will answer as I read.‘Iβm really trying to understand the key concepts of the dummy which I think is position and moving around an opponent.’
AND staying close while doing it.‘I also have in mind some of the descriptions you have used w…[Read more]

Nice to hear from you Lee!
Fan sau means ‘continuous attacks’, not going potty on each other, but simply meaning that the strikes are coming from an already existing contact but not necessarily from the roll.

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Dok Sau in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 11 months ago
Mmmm,
Not necessarily, it may (and usually does) come from the rolling action first, but either would work, providing your partner understands the need to wait, allowing you to exhaust all options regarding the left attack then the right, the left support then the right, the left step in then the right, the left step out then the right, all with…[Read more]

Duanne, BRILLIANT!
This is the very essence of what I mean by learning through teaching, teach your students properly and you will learn from them, however in this case, it’s all yours.
A great idea, well done.
I will start thinking of this straight away.
This is a great drill to work WITH a partner but yes, why not still train it solo, and…[Read more]

Hi Amy,
I do believe you know what I am going to say, but still… “If it’s not comfortable, it’s not right”
Pain is our body’s way of telling us something is wrong, to ignore this is foolish.
The simple solution to your concerns/issue, is to close the distance between the feet and do not bend so low, this is only practice after all.
As for…[Read more]

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic P.E.R.T. in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 11 months ago
Hey Nick,
The P.E.R.T. is for Chi Sau in general, not Dan Chi.
Chi Sau is a general term meaning sticking hands, when we refer to PERT we are in fact meaning when in Gor Sau (attacking hands) what most simply call, ‘Chi Sau’
Dan chi
Lap sau
Poon sau
These are the guiding blocks up to this level, then when we feel comfortable with all this, we…[Read more] - Load More
