Hi Matt,
Regarding your question regarding centreline, forgive the quality but I made a video for you explaining better. I made this very late at night after all classes and private sessions had finished, plus it’s on an iPhone so the sound is not great.
Hopefully it will make sense to you.
I’ll pop it on the blog too and also share through…[Read more]

Hi Guys,
Just thought I’d keep you in the loop, after setting up the studio and making the ‘missing’ Bong sau video, I then took the time to look into the archive, only to find that the video was already made 4 years ago!
I will have it uploaded tomorrow.
Thanks again for reminding me and for your patience.
Sifu 🙂

Hi Michele,
If you are entering a level, ‘Beginner stage 1 Module 1’ (let’s say) then in order to enter this level you will need to click ‘Enrol’, after this you will be told that you are ‘Enrolled’ on this course. To then see the videos on this course/level you simply click once again on the ‘Beginner stage 1 Module 1’ description.
I hope this…[Read more]

Hi John,
Sorry for the delay! Just got back from Hong Kong a few hours ago.
If you’ve not hung it just yet, try to have the centre of the top bag in line with your throat, this way with a slight bend on your knees you will be striking to your own chin height, perfect, as the punching angle will be correct but with the added advantage of a…[Read more]

Rick and Kit,
That’s great news if you guys can get to train together!
Please keep me informed on your progress, I just got back from Hong Kong a few hours ago and Sifu Ip Chun would have loved to have heard of this.
I’ll let him know once you’ve sorted something out.
Sifu 🙂

Hi Jeremy,
Sorry for the delay! Just got back from training with Sifu in Hong Kong a few hours ago.
If you’ve not filled it yet the best thing to use is dried chick peas as this gives a very similar density to flesh.
You can of course use sand but this may be a tad hard to start with?May I also recommend something I just saw at Sifu Ip…[Read more]

Hi Peter,
Sorry for the delay but I only got back to the UK from Hong Kong a few hours ago.
That’s strange? If you’ve watched all the videos then I’m sure it’s ok, although there are many videos that are recommended to watch over an over, so perhaps this has played a part, along with the possibility that since that 100% was initially measured,…[Read more]

I’m sure you’ll find it rewarding Peter, and fun.
Remember though, I’m not suggesting you stop your own progress, just go over the basics again, why not?
They’re being studied anyway?Best wishes to your family,
Sifu

Hi Peter,
You know, the great thing about Wing Chun is less is more, we have less to learn so more time to drill what we have.
Karate for instance has 18 hand forms (Kata) before you get to black belt (and then there’s more to come), where as we only have 3 forms, which means we would have the chance to focus on a single form 6 times to their 1.…[Read more]

Hi Abdulkarem,
Regarding time, people always say the more you put in, the more your get out, BUT you need quality not quantity.
What I mean by this is take small pieces and drill, drill, drill until you feel they are perfected.
Whatever daily time you start with I would ask that it is something you feel you can keep to, but, if you tell…[Read more]

Hi John,
Good question.
I believe you may be referring to the beginner course 4 points?
1/ Turn feet 45
2/ Bend knees
3/ Turn shoulders
4/ Sit backIf this is the case then this is just to get you started, and, you may notice at the end of that piece (I hope) I will probably say that if you wish to relax the front foot a little, allowing it…[Read more]

Hi Jeremy,
Nice idea and sounds like fun! 🙂
The only concerns with the use of gloves is that if they’re too big then it may encourage punching over the top instead of forward and therefore cause a hammer fist type finish.
Also, the weight of the gloves as a training aid can often create a negative affect as it encourages the wrong muscle…[Read more] -
Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic The pigeon toed stance in the forum Members Forum 9 years, 8 months ago
Hi Frank,
Wing Chun is designed to mould to the individual and each person will use the system to their own advantage.
There will always be areas that one person may find they are very good at and connect with immediately, that another person finds a struggle.
If you are referring to the basic stance, then the ‘toes in’ principle is there…[Read more]

Cheers John,
Sounds a great idea, I’m hoping to arrange a bunch of seminars at some point, I’m going let people get a little experience first though and then start a plan.
Something for the future eh?
Hopefully we’ll be face to face at some point.
