Hi Nick and first of all I must thank you for your very kind words.
Also, I love your photo! 🙂The answer is that, in order to learn any style you must follow 3 stages:
1/ Learn the shapes (positions)
2/ Learn how to use them to defend yourself
3/ Learn how to defend and counter attack
So in reverse order, any fool can strike, but you need…[Read more] -

Although we do not use upper cuts etc. it is crazy not to learn how to defend them.
As for using them?
As a first strike, NO! Definitely not, for Wing Chun reasons I believe you may already know.
As a follow up? Mmmm, ideally no, BUT, in my realistic street opinion, your Wing Chun has worked if you do not get hit, your counter attack (your…[Read more] -

Hi Ian,
Great question and very well worded.
I’ll make a video of this today for you and blog it in the morning.
But basically, try to think of what each type of footwork gives us, as these help each other out, for instance:
Lets say I’m standing on a clock face, aiming toward 12, right foot forward in Biu mar.
In order for me to step right…[Read more] -

This is always a difficult topic, but I will share my thoughts.
First of all, no martial art is better than any other, this is simply down to the individual.
If I trained in Karate for two weeks and then said Karate is rubbish, this would be unfair for a couple of reasons.
1/ to say ‘Karate is not rubbish’ is not fair, what should be said is ‘I…[Read more] -

Mauricio my friend,
Sometimes the same videos are placed in different areas because it will be relevant to what is being explained in that particular module.
As for same videos having a different name, do not worry, this is because all of these videos, especially at this level, are so important that it is better to watch them as many times as…[Read more]

Hello Aaron,
Simple answer, don’t worry about it.
Turning the toes in is designed to help gain the inward bend on the knees, the inward bend on the knees is then used as a way of understanding the direction and line that energy will follow (a bit like a runway for an airplane), either to redirect force down into the ground, or gain force from…[Read more]

Pikeville looks great and you’ve got a good thing going on there with your training.
I was looking at some photos of Pikeville and it really made me miss the States, perhaps we can arrange something and I’ll see you there myself one day.
I believe it’s a bit chilly there at the moment eh?
Keep up the training and keep the group growing, I’d…[Read more]

Hi David,
Welcome to the site and thank you for your kind words.
This was recently brought to my attention and will be addressed on our next revamp, but as it was only cosmetic it didn’t make it to the top of the list.
It will definitely be looked at next though. I do hope this hiccup doesn’t damped you enthusiasm. 🙂
How is your training…[Read more]
