Hi Nick,
So busy, only getting to this now… as for-
“what would be a proper counter to a wrist lock performed from the position of the one who was just lapped (using the free hand to take hold of wrist still holding their bong)”
Your answer is spot on, this is a wing chun drill, not aikido 🙂
A drill is prearranged understanding of a…[Read more] -

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Poon Sau Changes – When the flow is halted in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 7 months ago
Ok, here goes, in order, firstly with the original question.
The simple answer is yes, change, if you are being to slow to respond/react, put less tension in the forearm OR, step back while doing this.Next Duanne, a nice contribution if your thinking is to keep the flow rather than freeze, 100%.
Lee, i like the ice of ‘Tan to punch needs to be…[Read more]

Hey Duanne,
Actually I did not see this post before class on Thursday but hopefully answered this there.
Simplified, the aggressive or passive use of a Tan is the attitude in which it is applied, power out, or drawing in.

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Lose the “Gum” in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 8 months ago
Sifu Ip Chun plays the Form WITH the gums, when I asked him about this he simply said that he was sick of explaining. 🙂
He also said a similar thing when playing the 2nd sec of Chum Kiu, with Bong to Tan/guard (not the checking of centre) when I asked him why he didn’t check centre he said, “After playing this Form fr 50 years, I think I know…[Read more]

My word, that young lad looks good! 🙂
The extra gums you refer to were taken away by Ip Man as part of the overall, reduction, of Wing Chun, well before Sifu had studied this.
Such as making all the elbows in Biu Gee, Kup Jarn instead of adding additional info through varying angles (i.e. Gwoi Jarn 45 degree and Pie Jar being horizontal), also…[Read more] -

Hi Marquis,
I do not know why I had not replied to this for so long, very sorry.
Regarding the certificate, we had some design changing ideas and therefore had not printed the new ones, I will get onto this even if it sits as a temporary design (at least that way you’d have two of them!).
During this weeks Thursday class, I believe I did answer…[Read more]

To be honest, I had deliberately delayed it due to deciding to redesign the presentation.
I will finalise this very soon and send them out.
Thank you for reminding me and sorry for the delay.

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Pak Sau – Jab Defence Building Drill in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 8 months ago
Think of this in reverse;
In order to simplify and better understand the drill (and the feeling you are searching for), it is easier if you imagine, ‘feeding the punch into the pak’.
In reality the punch is coming in, we are trying to make contact BUT, by the nature of the jab, we are only left with a parry or cover at best, however, what we are…[Read more]

Answers,
• Push the hands down side of the body when closing the Yee Gee Kim Yuen Ma?
I would say, an act of completion and relaxation, telling yourself ‘You are done’ (unlike in our virtual sparring)

HA!
I’ve just seen your next post.Quite correct.

I read this wrong to start with, I thought the right palm was from your opponent..
‘• If I lift the right bong, making way for a left handed Tok sau, this may create an opening for a right side palm (underneath), provided I watch for a strike coming from the opponents right fook sau (in which case I may turn)?’
This is correct, although the r…[Read more]

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Tok Sau in the forum Members Forum 3 years, 9 months ago
Either by lowering your Tan momentarily, or raising your Bong, in both cases this will raise your partner Ding Sau, therefore allowing you to lift (Tok Sau) from the Tan.
Note, when you use the Tok in this case, your partner will always want to step back, so be prepared to follow them in as you chase with the other hand giving them the punch…[Read more]
