Regarding these techniques, really I need to see them individually and on their own merit.

Creating an almost form like pattern would be unnecessary, possibly complicated, and do nothing more really than give you something else to learn and worry about.

Easier to look at why it is not high. Look at the height of your front hand (maybe level with your chin?), if the back hand were that high it would simply benched into your face.
When doing punches, the back hand is lower than the front.
