Hi Frank,
I do not like to speak bad of anyone, BUT, you asked..
1/
The SLT, COMPLETELY wrong, I have NO idea what the thought could possibly be, and I always try to see their point of view.
There’s NO energy development, no centreline training, and if that Fook Sau is meant to be a strike? You do not strike with the back of a clenched…[Read more] -

Hi Otis,
You can do anything you like in Chi Sau providing two things:
1/
You get away with it2/
It was your choiceRegarding your thoughts, a Turning Punch from Fook Sau would actually be a combination of the Jum, Shift and Punch, all providing of course that there was the opportunity in the first place
i.e. Don’t try to attack over a…[Read more] -

Hi Nabarun,
I’ve been thinking about your question and really Tan can be used wherever you want to use it and at whatever height.
This blog / video may help too.

It is great for transporting and you can even put it in your baggage and take on holiday with you too, BUT, it is an inflatable dummy.
As long as you know that then it’s fine, don’t worry about it flying away, they’re not that light, and the arms etc are all correct dimensions.
For learning the form on it’s fine AND would be a talking point, but…[Read more]

STEVE!
One more thing!
OOPS, the assessment opportunity window was from the 1st April, and SHOULD HAVE been for just two weeks.
I forgot and left it open for the entire month!
However, if you do have an assessment to send (or will very soon), I will still honour it.

The Fook Sau is very similar to Mantis and it does actually come from Crane, used more as a scoop (if you imagine changing from a Fook to a Kau Sau, and then striking to the temple with the finger tips).
But for wing chun, in short I would say, no.
The reason for this is so;
Defending a straight punch, the ‘hooking’ of the hand would get in the…[Read more] -

Hi Otis,
Don’t think of the Fook Sau moving outward but forward, driven by the elbow, with the intent of finding a gap.
Should a change in Chi Sau lets say, provide a gap then the intention is to move forward and take advantage of that weakness in defence.
Likewise reminding you to defend such areas.
