I understand.
The hard work is in the practice, the more you put it, the more you get out, the ours, you choose.
I cannot tell you exactly how much you need to train because I do know your situation (work, family etc.) but what I will say is this, do not over do it, always make it enjoyable.
Too much too soon is always dangerous,

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Body weight in punch in the forum Members Forum 6 years ago
Think of this…
Switching energy off after the strike, not only generates more shockwave in the impact but also allows for immediate secondary attack or defence, something not offered so much when using a cross punch or a roundhouse let’s say.
I think of my punches wanting to act like the fast and equal repetition of an Uzi 9mm rather than a…[Read more]

Hi Richard,
Putting weight into the punch is not necessary, and for most people needing Wing Chun, this may not be possible anyway.
With a slight bend on your knees so that they are over the toes, would mean that the ‘mass’ is in contact with the floor, this connection will assist in the power, but the secret is not that of switching energy ON…[Read more]

Are you turning?
Tan needs to be used with a turn (ideally).
Although, Tan can move wherever it needs to go, it can be tighter, lower, forward, backward, stepping, turning and so on, BUT before you change it, you need to know what you are changing from.
Hope that makes sense?

Use whatever works for you.
Wing Chun IS Shaolin.
It is a collection of all the best bits from all the best styles:
Fook sau – White crane
Biu – Snake
Lap – Tiger
and so on… -

Correct.
We are training ourselves to recover, take, get to, centreline but not to overcommit.

Hi Joph and welcome to the family!
No need to buy anything for a long time yet but if you do want to buy something, a good mirror and possibly a wall bag would be the best things, and in that order too.

Practice everything.
Fak sau is (whisking hand), type:
bong, lap, fak
into the search engine at the top right and watch the videos there, you’ll love it.You know, even if you try a bong, lap, fak against a jab, you may miss the lap but still be successful with the bong, and lap or not, the fak sau will still be engaged and still either be a hit…[Read more]

The countdown is just telling you how long there is to wait until we are taking video assessments next, and then there’s a countdown telling you how long you have left before that particular opportunity closes.
This is just because we do not take assessments all the time, only at certain times through the year, this way we know when to expect to…[Read more]

It will be the bottom three knuckles, however DO NOT only use the knuckles as this would indicate your wrist in rolling inward.
When punching a wall bag make contact with the fingers (bottom three again), even though you are hitting with the fingers, you would notice the reddening of the knuckles, therefore, contact on all but power at the…[Read more]

Hi there,
Sorry for the delay but I’ve been dealing with affairs in Hong Kong and it took all my attention for the last 24hrs or so.
A reasonable question…
First of all I would say this;
If we block and then wait, then there will definitely be a second punch thrown.
So don’t wait!
When we use the Bong, we immediately counter with a Fak sau,…[Read more] -

Hi Nick,
When using a Biu Sau – ‘thrusting hand’ (which indicates a block) think of this as bracing for impact, therefore an even tension throughout the hand and fingers at the point when the opponents strike hits your wrist/forearm area.
As for Biu Gee – ‘thrusting fingers’ (which indicates a strike) there would perhaps be slightly more tension…[Read more]

Hi Richard!
Welcome to the family and thank you for your kind words.
For me personally, the most important thing is, ‘If it’s not comfortable, it’s not right’.
It is never a bad thing to want to ‘correct’ your posture and to try to keep upright, but when it comes to concerns regarding your health in this, or any matter, I would of course check…[Read more]

Wooden dummies ‘should be’ the same no matter where you get them from and follow similar angles, the differences really tend to be the quality of the wood, the frame work supporting it and preferences to staining and so on.
The PVC dummy I endorse was designed by my student and to my measurements.
Obviously this is inflatable, so let’s not…[Read more]
