Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Bong Sau with turning in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 2 months ago
Hi Derek,
Thank you for your polite question, not being disrespectful at all. π
As for the Bong, if the elbow is up then this is a correct Bong, although a bong on its own is dangerous, we need to turn with this too, so therefore the question is on the turn.
With regards to your comment, ‘the left leg is in a forward position’, do you mean…[Read more]

Hi Richard,
It sounds as though everything you are focussing on is correct, as for:
‘So my question is: am I using too much power at some point in the technique?’
If this is in connection with, ‘I do note thereβs a little movement’, do not worry, it would be very unlikely that there is zero movement in the body if you are attempting to use e…[Read more]

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Chi sau ??? Or???? in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 2 months ago
Hi again Lee,
I liked this question and wanted to present it to my class last night to get their thoughts on the subject.
They looked a little bemused.
In short this is mutual agreement, an understanding that if a technique is clearly in, then “Well done”, well played, BUT, I do not think this should purely be the case.
As long as this stays…[Read more]

Simply focus on relaxing with good structure while rolling?

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Chi Sau – Forwarding Energy vs. Forwarding Intent in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 2 months ago
Mmmm…
Well now.
Think of this, forward intent tells me where I want to go, forward energy shows me how to get there, but neither of these would be over-committing with energy, only with muscle.
The deceitful element is me trying to encourage my partner/opponent to use so much energy (albeit tricked into wasting it into the ground via my…[Read more]

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Question re Grading in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 2 months ago
Hi Richard,
Yes that’s fine, if you have the opportunity to use a partner, take that chance to run through (and record) your techniques side, then when you have the time solo, record your Forms etc.!

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic Question re Grading in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 2 months ago
Hi Chris,
If a grading is failed then all details are given back to you and yes, there is usually a recommendation to retry (having corrected mistakes) without the need to pay a second time.
Thank you

Hi Jonathan,
Here is the link for the dummies:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363001032619?hash=item54848c2fab:g:KUkAAOSwm7Bex8T5
A great way of getting a cheap, and transportable, dummy.
Not everyones first choice perhaps, but definitely worth considering.

Hi Jonathan,
Buying a dummy can be expensive, but we do sell inflatable ones (which are not as bad as that initially sounds), they are fairly sturdy (not a balloon!) and great for training the pattern.
We sell them through a link in our shop but that price of Β£134.99 is VERY wrong, I am just finding the correct link for you now, they should be…[Read more]

Hi Brian!
Take one, train and drill, and if you feel ok, move on to the next.
But do remember to revisit videos, they make even more sense next time around.
