Additional info from another old blog:
Question:
‘What is the secret to explosive energy?’
Answer:
‘Relaxation’.
How simple was that!
Strength, is the result of building big muscles whereas speed is not, and in order to generate explosive power we need speed more than we need muscle.
Mother nature tells us that in order to hurt so…[Read more]

Hi Nick,
A good point to raise.
I do have a previous blog on this which would benefit from being shown again, perhaps I could pop this up on Saturday? For now though…
What is the right amount of tension that should be there?
As soon as you use it, lose it.Straight after contact with the arm or completion of the move…

As for rule of thumb..
If it works, use it, if it’s not comfortable, it’s not right.
Remember too the weapon of choice, this idea also goes for your defence, hands deal with hands, legs deal with legs.
This idea also suits close distance, if someone is so close, defend with your elbows (just as in the last blogs) and if you’re in a tussle,…[Read more] -

Hi Lee,
Here are your answers:
Where does the bong fit in that?
If your hands are preoccupied. Is the bong a last resort?
Possible, if the first line of defence (hands) has been breeched.
An application which popped straight into my head just then is… Imagine someone has stepped right into your space (and you cannot retreat), meaning your…[Read more] -

Do not focus on both hands at the same time,
Tan/punch
Start with turning punches, then stop on one and place out the Tan, now we are ready…
Look only at the Tan hand, as you FEEL your punching hand begin to open, you now give permission to the Tan hand to flow through to a punch, following it with your eyes all the way!
When you have done…[Read more] -

Hi Richard,
At least we know it has been uploaded, but I’ve still yet to find it?
To be honest I’m just struggling a little at the moment with the Covid virus, as soon as I’m through this I’ll give it me full attention.
A 6.00a, Siu Lim Tau did the trick this morning. 🙂

Is it possible to send them to me the old fashioned way, putting them on YouTube and sending me a link?
Of course you’d delete them after I have watched them.

Hi Richard,
I just wanted to check in with you for an update.
First of all, PLEASE accept my apologies for this mess up, as I said, the tech guy did fix the problem, but the big down side is that we do not know where your videos have gone.
Please tell me that you still have them available for a reload?
Hopefully this has not soured your…[Read more]

Sifu Colin Ward replied to the topic What is the purpose of the wooden dummy in the forum Members Forum 4 years, 10 months ago
Hey Seth, you’re welcome,
So if i stand to the left of the dummy with the one dummy arm straight on, and use a pak sau near the tip, that would translate to my left hand, pak sau to the inside wrist?
Correct
Which is why standing in front of the dummy, you would do a right arm bong sau to the left arm of the dummy, since you want to be on the…[Read more]

Hi Seth,
The main (and easy) answer is to tell you that it is for training positions, it is also there to help you to move around your opponent while keeping close and tight, it is NOT there for conditioning your arms.
I wonder if you may find this blog of help, just type:
THE ‘SECRET’ OF THE DUMMY FORM
into the search engine at the top rig…[Read more]

Hey Nick,
In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve posted the blog I was referring to, unfortunately I realised after committing myself to it, that I have covered much of this in the past, but I did manage to add a few points to the principle this time, and it is always nice to share these things with our wider family.
Hope you get something from…[Read more]

A great contribution there Lee, thank you.
That is certainly the traditional way to learn, and I agree with your methods, as you are so far on now, perhaps you may also try running the forms in reverse, this way the higher end (as it were) of the system will benefit from your freshness and clarity of mind, or maybe even your lack of a chance to…[Read more]

Hi Nick,
That is a wonderful question, and I did start to answer but then realised this is probably worthy of a blog, therefore for now… if I may, here is a short answer just to give you something to train at present.
Playing them in sequence is always a good idea but that does often mean that if we run out of time then the SLT has had more…[Read more]

Hi Brian,
Thank you for your message.
Regarding kids training, although I am all for kids learning martial arts and obviously Wing Chun, we do need to be a little careful due to the nature of the style, I mean let’s be honest, no-one wants juniors being kicked in the knee or jabbed in the eye!
However, what you decide for your children is your…[Read more]
