Ok, first of all I say again, if it’s not comfortable it’s not right, so take this with a pinch of salt (as it were).
1) Tight and tired shoulders the longer I roll.
Old school method would be to just ride through this.
At first it is a pain, you get through, then it’s ok and then the pain comes back… stop there.
However, not knowing your…[Read more] -

Hi Michael,
I imagine you are referring to Biu Mar, in which case yes this is wrong, and a bad habit.
There is only one thing I can say about this and it would be to practice more.
The rules are simple (as is Wing Chun), to go forward, move the front foot first, to go backwards move the back foot first.
Trying to close the gap quickly,…[Read more]

Welcome to the family Jason!
I must say, that is the PERFECT reason for wanting to train with us, often students may leave when they find a school to attend, but, it is never a bad thing to see different perspectives or have cross references.
Best of luck with the training and let us know if you need anything.

Sometimes the heavier knife can help in the swing of the technique, and especially in those sections, practice makes perfect.
The added weight would also stop you bouncing the tip of the blade in the punches.
Try using the heavy knives but starting with sec 8 and playing the sections in reverse order, that way you’re not tired at the pieces…[Read more]

I looked at the blog and watched the video (I enjoyed watching that!) but to answer your question after seeing it… no.
I would say its not the same, in the dummy I was showing how to stick, but in the chi sau I was showing how to deflect.
The Tan is not trying to draw them in, it is their attack which is doing that
There is a connection with…[Read more]

Excellent!!!
Very well done indeed. 🙂
Very few points to make, the obvious one was your seeing the fish line in section 8 which caused you to hiccup, a perfect reason why training forms helps us to stay in the moment the same as chi sau and sparring does.
While on sec. 8… after your kick you do need to step through there, so landing in…[Read more] -

Richard, my dear friend.
We do tend to wait until all entries have had a chance to be collected and then they are watched over and over again, and unfortunately for you…
Not sure how to break this to you but…
CONGRATULATIONS!
You passed!
Really well done, SO glad you stuck with it and amazing progress to say you’d not done Wing Chun…[Read more]

Hi Tom and welcome to the executive washroom! LOL
I just wanted to run a few checks before getting back to you to make sure what I was saying was correct, as we really want you to have a smooth ride.
The usually way is to video yourself on your phone etc., upload it to a youtube channel (setting up your own of course) and then send me the link…[Read more]

Hi Lee,
Let me answer this as separate questions, oh and btw, I recorded a piece for a blog on Tuesday which I will be releasing on Saturday, in this post I discuss the intent behind a turning punch when defending with Tan and it’s different outcome, so do look out for this.
Please ask me tonight about this too as I covered this on Monday but…[Read more] -

Hi Seth,
Yes indeed this is a common thing (I wanted to say issue or problems but then again… it’s not really a problem).
Usually this is simply because your punches are going too far out, try starting closer and then increasing the distance?
Most people do this, and I bet you find your butt shakes too eh?
Practice will solve this, also try…[Read more]

Hi Michael,
Originally that was the idea, to have a camera in one of my classes.
There were two reason this didn’t work out so well, the first was that there was no signal (a poor excuse because I later realised that I could just use the 4G on my phone via a hotspot) but the second (and main) reason was that it ‘may have’ been a bit boring as of…[Read more]

I think I mentioned before of WC being like blueprints that you can apply over any other style.
I just stumble over a clip where, this first move, to me at least, is clearly a Bong, Tan, Jeng Sau (Spade hand), or a simple Palm if you like.
Forget the bit where he would be getting shot in the face. LOL

Hey Tom,
It is nice that you are passionate about this but ‘choose your battles’, do not go looking for them.
When you say:
‘some criticisms hold validity in terms of outsiders looking in’
Who cares?
Their lack of knowledge is not your issue, these are the kind of people who laugh at seeing a boxer skipping?Again, when you say:

I am sorry that you have had these situations and that they have stayed with you, I hope over time you will be able to relax the demons.
