Ok, so… this has been a hard one for me. I don’t really know what I am asking here.
I guess I am just thinking through this application.
From the Tan / Bong position (one option):
• If I lift the right bong, making way for a left handed Tok sau, this may create an opening for a right side palm (underneath), provided I watch for a strike co…[Read more]

Hi Sifu,
I am having a difficult time imagining how the Tok Sau can be used in Chi Sau? You mentioned this last week in class while clarifying its definition and usage in the third section of Siu Lim Tau.
I can see its application in response to an attack, like adding it to a defensive inside Pak. Is this what you had in mind or were you…[Read more]

Thank you Sifu. You are always so kind. We still have the nagging covid cough and weak voice but hopefully this will pass as well.

Greetings Sifu. I trust my inquiry finds you all healthy and full of cheer!
Quick question:
There are two movements in Bart Jam Dao that I was wondering if an application exists.
1) At the beginning of every movement we relax the swords and then lift them vertical again.
2) Section 8 of the form. Is there an application for checking center? Why…[Read more] -

Cheers Sifu,
Question: Do you recommend a way to clear a bong sau to make way for a strike? Im looking at the Gum and the Tok Sau but have never really seen this done. I dont think a Gum is useful since there is only access to the wrist, not a good Gum position.
Thoughts? Insights?
My other thoughts drift to the opponents use of the bong. It…[Read more]

Hi Sifu,
We have been playing (free flow) Dan Chi Sau here and I wanted to ask for your clarification and insight to some of my learning.
If I am understanding your teaching correctly, then Dan Chi Sau is for:
• Position – understanding your range
• Energy – understanding when to stop
• Reaction – understanding sensitivity and not over commi…[Read more] -

Hello Sifu.
I have a question
I think it is from 3.7 in the library. When rolling in chi sau on the outside (ding & fook) and my partner goes for a pak, you teach in the drill that a simple defense is to simply turn with the ding sau.
My question is this. When my partner drills a perfect pak, by that I mean it is well timed and not forecast,…[Read more]

Hi Sifu,
When rolling in Chi Sau, do I need to make sure that I am adjusting appropriately from a Ding Sau to a Fak Sau (High to Low) on the outside? Is it recommended that these are strict hand positions even though little adjustments? Or can I just relax and focus on good position, elbow energy and contact letting those hand positions be less…[Read more]

Hi Colin. Did you reach out to Aaron who apparently is just approximately 1 hour from you? If you both commute halfway you may have found a partner? 😀

Brief question…
When rolling in Chi Sau, do I need to make sure that I am adjusting appropriately from a Ding Sau to a Fak Sau (High to Low)? Is it recommended that these are strict, yet little, adjustments? Or can I…[Read more]
