2nd video. Yeah he is saying that the wing chun stance/guard puts you too far away from your opponent (at around 1:50) for him to throw tight close range hooks, so he will only be able to throw long hooks.
Here is another video of the same guy showing Biu Sau blocks against stronger punches.

This guy actually answers my question in this video. This one makes the most sense to me. Attack/block more toward the bicep when you are in close, but at the wrist when you are far away.

I was actually taught at a class once what he is doing more toward the end of the video, pushing at the bicep. He says not to strike at the forearm, but to make the block hit the bicep, and basically push out. But if you are at a long distance I don’t see how this would work, because you would have to be closer to do that. And he also doesn’t show…[Read more]

Lol. Thanks. Can you show how to block a tight uppercut without turning the body too in the video?
And what do you think about this for a defending against a hook.

Haha alright. I’ll remind you. I was at a class once trying to block hooks in a forward stance and the punches were breaking through my block. So I don’t really feel confident in my ability to block hooks right now. Same with uppercuts. In one of your videos teaching basic blocks against the uppercut, the uppercut is really long. But what about an…[Read more]

When you send me the chain punching video, can you also include some videos teaching defense against hooks/uppercuts/jabs from the forward standing posture? I saw your videos teaching defense against hooks/uppercuts from a parallel posture, using your turning stance. But in the forward standing position I don’t use the turning stance right? And…[Read more]

Haha. It’s great to be able to post videos on here like this. Makes things easier. I was just looking at your chain punches and it does seem like you bring the back hand up a bit, then go forward, as the front hand goes down. That’s what I was originally doing at the beginning, but wasn’t sure if it was right.

Thanks.Don’t really understand though. Might be an error in communication. Do you have any time for a 10 minute skype call?

Yeah, that makes sense. And what about the pak sao arm getting in the way of my punch. When I punch over the pak sao sometimes I hit my arm, or it feels way too close.

Alright, awesome. And no worries.
Another question for you about pak sao. I saw in one of your videos saying ideally the pak sao should only come to the center of the body, but when I pak sao at the center of the body, it gets in the way of my punch. I saw in another video you were pak saoing further, all the way to the shoulder. Which one is correct.

I’ll put a video of me below showing what I mean when I say turning the fists out. It is basically what you said, just making a little angle. Is that the right way to do it like I show in the video?
And I haven’t seen the bulletin thing, I only use facebook messenger on my main account right now, don’t have the timeline.…[Read more]

And actually, it was one of the students that told me to punch with the fists more turned out, not the teacher.
But when I look at this video below, I can see their fists turned out, not completely straight, I think? Idk. Hard to say
Going to go rewatch your videos.

The guys in the video aren’t the same ones that told me not to punch with a straight fist. The school that told me that was a Sifu Och school. I’ve been trying to get down to train with them forever. It’s the only school in my state certified to teach the entire ip man system under 4 direct lineages. Moy Yat, Ip Chun, Ip Ching, and Simon Lau. But…[Read more]

I managed to make it down to a wing chun class really far from me. The teacher there was a gold medalist sanda fighter, and really awesome guy. But it’s so far that I can’t go regularly. I was asking about my hands hitting each other when doing the chain punches, and I was told to turn my hands outwards more, instead of keeping my fists straight.…[Read more]

There are a few aikido schools around me. Do you think wing chun and aikido would compliment each other? I met one aikido teacher near me that does pushing hands in his classes. And another teacher told me he had a student in his class whose main martial art is wing chun. Seem to be good places to go to find a training partner.

You can use my question, and my name too 😛 And you mean disrespectful to other martial arts? I actually told this to another wing chun teacher too, and he freaked out, telling me I was going to make people angry. I use to take muay thai in my area, and know fighters around here though. It would just be friendly sparring, not a dojo challenge. But…[Read more]

Hahaha this is great footage, do you have anything else to share?
I’ve thought about how wing chun would be gimped in sparring sessions with rules, and gloves. I’d basically be limited to simple punches and blocks.
Have you ever seen this video? The wing chun fighters destroys this muay thai guy using palm strikes with no gloves. I’d like to…[Read more]

I want to take what I learn from you into different martial arts schools and spar with the people there, so I can improve. Do you think I could hold my own against bjj/muay thai fighters with what I learn here?

I need to get further into the course, in your turning stance videos, and observe exactly what you do.
