Sifu,
I went ahead and downloaded the Syllabus for the Sii Lum Tao level assessment. I have been reading over it and, while I understand the terms, I don’t exactly understand what is wanted from us. Let me explain.
Under the first heading (Basic Solo Training), it says things like “Punches: singles, threes, and fives” and “Mid section kicks from…[Read more]

Sifu,
Believe me, I am trying. There are not a lot of people interested in my area. Plus there is the problem of the affordability of renting a place where we could all practice; very few places are willing to let you use a room for free or without highly priced liability insurance. While I understand the purpose of it, that doesn’t make it any…[Read more]

Sifu,
Yes it does. I Was not thinking of how you were demonstrating Bong to Jam; I was just thinking of what might work better against a lower strike, but you were focusing more on that specific application. Thanks!

Steve G replied to the topic Grading Question: Why No Pole Form? in the forum Members Forum 9 years, 3 months ago
Sifu,
I live in upstate New York, in a very tiny town called Stillwater. I used to live in a city that is a little better-known, as many movies have been filmed there (Ironweed, Scent of a Woman, and Age of Innocence among them) called Troy, NY. I’m about 30 minutes from there now.

Sifu Colin,
I was watching Beginner Stage 1, Module 3, Lesson 3. I had a question about Jum Sau.
In this video, your partner does a punch to the head, which you block with Bong Sau. Then he drops the hand to go for a body shot. You drop the elbow and do a Jum Sau. I noticed when you did that, you leaned your body forward to get the arm low…[Read more]

Sifu Colin,
What about those of us who want to be certified to teach but live in the States, work 2 jobs, and are too poor to go across the pond to meet in person with you? I ask because…well, that’s my situation.

Sifu,
Oh, no need to be sorry. Maybe there was a different way to arrive at Wing Chun, but this is how it went for me. I don’t lament it because the journey was MINE, and it made me realize one thing about myself: I am resilient. I am determined to go after what I went and get it, no matter how many times I stumble or how many times I find myself…[Read more]

Steve G replied to the topic No "Mark as Completed" Button in the forum Members Forum 9 years, 3 months ago
I just tried on a third computer. Still no button.
I took the quiz for Module 2 and I am ready to move on to Module 3. However, I can’t because according to the system, I am technically only 78% done with Module 2. Any idea when that button will be there?

Yep, tried on my Dell and I still don’t see a “mark as completed” button.

I was looking for an art I could use for self-defense because in high school I was bullied a lot. It was only verbal because I had this intense fear: “If I talk back, it will get physical!” I hated feeling compelled to keep my mouth shut, but I sure didn’t want to get punched either.
The first style I took was Judo. While I did like it (and I see…[Read more]

I don’t know if it is just the computer I am on, but there is no “mark as completed” button on Beginner Stage 1 Module 1 Lesson 1. I won’t be able to move on if that button doesn’t reappear! Is it missing for anyone else?

Sifu Ward,
I did not read the blog, although I will be sure to do so now! As for partners, I have a couple people lined up who are interested in lessons. Also, last March I was able to teach a 2-hour “introduction to Wing Chun” course at a local community college. It was such a success that they asked if I would like to teach a 6-hour course…[Read more]
