Sifu Ward,
I just wanted to show the difference in the lineages…the way I learned it versus what Ip Chun’s lineage is.
I don’t think there is any implication in anything I said where I implied I am trying to be the one teaching you something. As I said in the video, the reason I call out the techniques was for someone else who had asked me to…[Read more]

Sifu Ward,
Just watched this one, where you do Kau Sau with your right hand and palm strike with the left.
One question: doesn’t that leave you in danger of being hit to the body on the right, with the elbow so high?
I know theoretically, everything can be countered, but I think there are certain techniques that provide far more openings than…[Read more]

Sifu Ward,
As I have stated in the past, I spent most of my Wing Chun career learning from a school that was in the Ip Ching lineage. Now I am under Leung Sheung, although I do not know the Mook Jong form yet. (Also, the Sifu from that lineage is out of commission at the moment due to a back surgery.) In the meantime, I thought it might be…[Read more]

Sifu Ward,
I think it was in one of the Chum Kiu videos where you gave an interpretation as to why you would face forward while doing Fak Sao to the side. Here is an interpretation of mine, based on a time when this variation was actually pressure tested, courtesy of a belligerent drunk.

Sifu Ward,
Noticed a few things here…
When you click “Mark as Complete” on Module 8.4, it says the next module is 8.8.
Also, 8.4 ends with Section 6 incomplete. I went to 8.5, but that goes straight to applications of section 7.

Sifu Ward,
I am not sure what is going on, but there is one question on the Module 7 quiz where I keep picking the correct answer, but it keeps saying I picked the wrong one when I tell it to grade the quiz. I have tried it 3 times…keep getting 5 out of 6 right. If you email me, I can tell you which one because I don’t want to give the correct…[Read more]

Sifu Ward,
I have tried searching for a style that favors kicking range that might compliment Wing Chun, but I gave up. At first I thought Muay Thai, but they like to do a lot of large, grand, telegraphed motions. Savate seems like a good match, but there is no one around me who teaches it, so I cannot observe.
In the end, I think Wing Chun…[Read more]

Sifu Ward,
The first martial art I studied was Judo. I’d say it compliments Wing Chun because, just like we do in Chi Sao, a Judoka relies on feeling where your energy is going to help them successfully throw you.

Steve G replied to the topic Siu Lim Tao Assessment Question in the forum Members Forum 8 years, 7 months ago
Sifu Ward,
I have some of my own questions about the assessment. I will break them down by the sections of the syllabus.
BASIC (SOLO) TRAINING
1) For “Punches” and “Palm Strikes,” it says “singles, threes, and fives.” Do you want us to break our performance down by saying “here’s a single punch,” and then do a couple repetitions, and then say…[Read more]

Hello,
This is a re-introduction, since I was here before.
My name is Steve, and I live in Troy, NY. I started Wing Chun in 1995, and I have been on and off ever since. Admittedly, it has been more off than on. I started with a Sifu in Albany NY, who is from the Ip Ching lineage. About a year ago, I started training with a different Sifu, who is…[Read more]

Hello,
It is good to be back!
I haven’t been around in a while so I am starting again from Module 1, Lesson 1. However, I already have a question. 🙂
Are there any videos that go over the technique Jum Sao? (Forgive me if this lineage spells it different. I believe it translates as “sinking elbow?” It is in Sil Lum Tao, right after you do…[Read more]

Sifu Colin,
Regarding the video uploads that we do for assessments, what quality is acceptable? The reason I ask is because all I really have to record them on is my iPhone. If that is not good enough, then I will need to come up with something.
