Maybe I should actually say the blade, not the heel. I’m not hitting with the bottom of the palm.

The first palm strike the fingers aren’t facing the same direction, I’m hitting with the heel of the hand, which hits my pinky finger into my ring finger. Same with the Fak Sau.

Thanks. So the fak sao, and hitting with the side of the palm, always seem to smack my fingers together. I’ve tried different angles, and they always smack together. However, if i hit with the bottom of the palm, like near the wrist, of course they don’t smack together there, because my fingers aren’t involved. But any other palm strike makes the…[Read more]

I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately, and notice that you don’t close the fingers when you do any strike with the blade edge of your hand. I’ve always been taught to close the fingers (keep them touching) so they don’t smash together when you strike. I was testing this out the other day, hitting stuff, and this does seem to be the case.…[Read more]

This is really interesting. The thing about turning the waist hurting the knees has been really true for me. I’ve practiced muay thai, karate, and tai chi. The waist turning always destroyed my knees/hip joints. The teachers could never figure out what it was. It’s actually why I stopped practicing other martial arts and came to wing chun. I…[Read more]

Awesome. Looking forward to it.
I’m having some trouble with the heel turning you told me about. I can’t turn on the heels when I’m in motion. Only when standing still. Made a video about it below.

Haha, no worries. Whenever you’re free
I saw the knife video, thanks a lot. It’s good for long distance, but I still want to know what to do when he rushes me. Does wing chun have trapping techniques?
The blocking is great. A little worried I would be knocked off balance in a fight though turning on my heels, uprooting from the ground. What I’m…[Read more]

Hi. Yeah I might have it. But I’d like you to check out what I’m doing, and go over some things. Are you free this week?

Alright, so here is my understanding of wing chun at the moment, and what makes the most sense to me. Lets say im in a Biu Mar stance, and I want to block an uppercut or a hook. I turn my body into it, making it a really powerful block. And I turn the body without turning on the heels or anything, since im in a Bui Mar. And when I want to throw…[Read more]

Thanks. I watched it. You said turn when I do the block. But what if I am in a Biu Mar stance. Do I turn on the heels, or turn the body? And what if it is multiple strikes coming really fast. It seems like the turning would be too slow to block more than one fast strike.

Another scenario that comes to mind, which is hard to run away from, is the situation that happened with that kid elliot rogers. Went nuts, planned some massacre/killing spree, and started by stabbing his roommates 90 times in their sleep. Can’t really run away from that.

Sounds good. And also, a suggestion for new videos. Could you also put up wing chun self defense against knives, and other weapons like bats. I saw a video with you teaching to run away from a knife attack, and it was funny, but of course running away isn’t always an option. Especially when you are trying to protect someone else, or when you are…[Read more]

I saw you use the Biu Jee once for a hook. And in another video I saw you teaching it with a turning stance. But haven’t seen anything detailed without using the turning stance. And can I still post videos of myself for correction lol? I still want you to check out my chain punch some more. Not sure how correct it is.

Sure, but I mean, if I’m going to be practicing this, i want you to see it so I can see if its right. Since I’m practicing at home without you here to really look at me, I could end up practicing something 100,000 times incorrectly.

2nd video. Yeah he is saying that the wing chun stance/guard puts you too far away from your opponent (at around 1:50) for him to throw tight close range hooks, so he will only be able to throw long hooks.
Here is another video of the same guy showing Biu Sau blocks against stronger punches.

This guy actually answers my question in this video. This one makes the most sense to me. Attack/block more toward the bicep when you are in close, but at the wrist when you are far away.

I was actually taught at a class once what he is doing more toward the end of the video, pushing at the bicep. He says not to strike at the forearm, but to make the block hit the bicep, and basically push out. But if you are at a long distance I don’t see how this would work, because you would have to be closer to do that. And he also doesn’t show…[Read more]

Lol. Thanks. Can you show how to block a tight uppercut without turning the body too in the video?
And what do you think about this for a defending against a hook.
