I can commit to this for sure Sifu. Thanks again. I will do all I can to learn while honoring you and the Ip family.
I am having a nice time making some new Wing Chun friends. Plus, as a benefit I am learning these different perspectives that you are speaking of. I am convinced it will benefit my training in the long run.
For this I am thankful.…[Read more]

Thanks again for this instruction Sifu. I am working to gain this “feel” and implement it. I am actually beginning to understand (I think).
Quick question…
In blocking with a tan, we move a little bit out of the way of a strike and we move the strike a little bit out of the way. This is done by leaning back into our Cheun Mar.
Ip Ching…[Read more]

Thanks Brian. Thanks Sifu. I will keep playing / practicing. Truth be told I am terrible at relaxing 😬.

Sifu, I have been training with a Wing Chun school in Singapore directly established by the Ip Ching lineage (one generation). I am really struggling to learn to relax (no surprise to you I’m sure 😀). But what does this mean?
What are your thoughts and perspectives on Relaxation, Structure, and Internal “Elbow” Energy? This seems to be a primary…[Read more]

Appreciation:
Greetings Sifu, let me begin by saying thank you again for posting the recordings of the live classes online. While serving a 21-day shut-in-order in Singapore, I have been able to really prioritize intense, focused training. I am so grateful.Question:
At the end of section 8 in Bart Jam Dao, do I transfer any weight to the tip…[Read more] -
n. francis replied to the topic Min Dao / Sau Arm Position in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 5 months ago
Yes. Helpful. Thanks you.
This is the first time I have been introduced to the Man Sau used aggressively. Up till present I only thought of it passively.
I watched the Hong Kong rooftop teaching on the difference between Man Sau and Fak Sau quite some times ago. Only know I am watching it again. This time I understand more.
I am amazed at how…[Read more]

n. francis started the topic Min Dao / Sau Arm Position in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 5 months ago
Sifu,
Is there actually a correct elbow position for the Mun Dao? Is this a straighter arm or is it more bent? When I practice, it kind of feels like an extended Bong Sau (to the side)?
Is this correct?
Or is the position of the elbow less important since the focus is more on the movement / momentum coming from the shoulder, as in an…[Read more]

Is it correct to say we never lock the arm in our punches? This includes our punches in Bart Jam Dao?
I have not found it to be an issue in general but when using the swords I am having to be more intentional to not do so?

Sifu, Thank you! Your direction is so valued. The work can be discouraging until commitment helps us break through. Your instruction and accessibility always helps!
On an opening note… some training updates.
1) I wanted you to know that I am leaving for Singapore in two weeks. It seems as they have approved us for entry based on filial…[Read more]

Sifu, you’re guidance and instruction is most welcome. I can see areas needing more drilling and I am still working on the mechanics of Section 5a (as you will see). But I figure it’s a good time to invite your help. I figure there is no use in hiding and trying to train alone . . . 😀
Welcome home and Thank-You!

How about in the opening part of the section? When we do the 8 garn sau? Is it tight?

Sifu… any advice is helpful.
Part 1 – Garn Dao
In the opening section, what distance should my tan be. I am keeping the elbow in but perhaps too close to my body. Every time I hammer-fist and move through the elbow I am basically cutting myself (not literally of course, my knives have no blade…😉). I cannot seem to find the correct form that…[Read more]

n. francis replied to the topic Knife Form, Section 4 Part 1 – 3 pointers in the forum Members Forum 5 years, 6 months ago
Also, where Bart Jam Dao is translated as “8 Cutting Broadswords”, is it these 8 “Cutting” movements in the form that I am learning? Each section is one of the “8”?
So each cutting blade would be:
• Punch
• Biu
• Tan
• Garn
• ?
• ?
• ?
• ?
(I have not learned yet 😀). -

Sifu,
It seems as if the three pointers regarding the Garn Dao offered in Knife Form, Section 4 Part 1 are cut off at the end ☹️. Can you point me to where this is addressed. Do you know of any other times you spoke of it.
Thank-you.
P.S. I will send video updates of my section 1-3 for your coaching after I keep drilling for a while. There is…[Read more]

Hi Robert, I’m on the East Coast (U.S.) and this has been tricky for me to navigate too. Take note that we just rolled though some time changes (not sure if that impacts you here in the U.S.). However, I do believe that Leeds will turn clocks ahead today changing class time for us again tomorrow. For the past two weeks class here was at 3:00pm…[Read more]
