Ahhh!!! Yes! Makes sense. Iβve been pondering this one for weeks.
If you use a Tok Sau from a Tan/Bong then opponent may also Jum that Tan before the Tok Sau contact is even made.
Equally to be aware of is that if you try to Tok Sau from a Fook / Bong your open for a strike from their Tan.
Which again explains why we follow the energy flow a…[Read more]

Think of this in reverse;
In order to simplify and better understand the drill (and the feeling you are searching for), it is easier if you imagine, ‘feeding the punch into the pak’.
In reality the punch is coming in, we are trying to make contact BUT, by the nature of the jab, we are only left with a parry or cover at best, however, what we are…[Read more]

Answers,
β’ Push the hands down side of the body when closing the Yee Gee Kim Yuen Ma?
I would say, an act of completion and relaxation, telling yourself ‘You are done’ (unlike in our virtual sparring)

HA!
I’ve just seen your next post.Quite correct.

I read this wrong to start with, I thought the right palm was from your opponent..
‘β’ If I lift the right bong, making way for a left handed Tok sau, this may create an opening for a right side palm (underneath), provided I watch for a strike coming from the opponents right fook sau (in which case I may turn)?’
This is correct, although the r…[Read more]

My interpretation of this would simply be that this is our closing to the form. If you would like, itβs taking a deep, relaxed breath as we close the stance , then holding for a moment and breathing out as we push our hands down the side.

Greetings 🙏 The day for questions, it seems lol.
I’m having some difficulty understanding what we are trying to achieve by feeding the punch into the pak. -

So, it seems to me, that everything we do in Wing Chun has a purpose. Is this true?
If so…
What is the reason that we…

Ok, so… this has been a hard one for me. I don’t really know what I am asking here.
I guess I am just thinking through this application.
From the Tan / Bong position (one option):
β’Β If I lift the right bong, making way for a left handed Tok sau, this may create an opening for a right side palm (underneath), provided I watch for a strike co…[Read more]

Either by lowering your Tan momentarily, or raising your Bong, in both cases this will raise your partner Ding Sau, therefore allowing you to lift (Tok Sau) from the Tan.
Note, when you use the Tok in this case, your partner will always want to step back, so be prepared to follow them in as you chase with the other hand giving them the punch…[Read more]

Hi Sifu,
I am having a difficult time imagining how the Tok Sau can be used in Chi Sau? You mentioned this last week in class while clarifying its definition and usage in the third section of Siu Lim Tau.
I can see its application in response to an attack, like adding it to a defensive inside Pak. Is this what you had in mind or were you…[Read more]

Earlier today I mentioned to Amy in our FB group that I’d forgotten that tomorrow we were having a family get together for the anniversary of my fathers passing and that it was quite unlikely that there would be a ‘live’ session tomorrow (if you’ll forgive the pun π ).

Hi Nick,
A wonderfully simple question to which I will actually give you a video explanation later, as it is straight forward but could be lost in text only.
SO nice to see you looking well again and I LOVE! your training space.

Greetings Sifu. I trust my inquiry finds you all healthy and full of cheer!
Quick question:
There are two movements in Bart Jam Dao that I was wondering if an application exists.
1) At the beginning of every movement we relax the swords and then lift them vertical again.
2) Section 8 of the form. Is there an application for checking center? Why…[Read more] - Load More
