As Time Goes By

Thinking of others during this time

It is a strange thing that with all the concern of ‘Lockdown’ and thinking of others, I completely forgot that over the weekend that just passed, this was to be the UKMAS (U.K. Martial Art Show), a two day event hosting goodness knows how many Martial Arts stands, exhibitions and performances.

This weekend of events was to finish on Sunday evening, 4th May, with a black tie dinner event, paying host to the:

UK Hall of Fame Awards

Where I am happy to say, I was to be inaugurated into this prestigious list and presented with my award.

Yeah!

It’s a real shame that the thing had to be cancelled, as I was so looking forward to meeting with old faces (I don’t mean literally) and shaking hands with many of my childhood heroes.

It didn’t even enter my mind that this event was in the diary or that the date had been and gone, as I was so concerned with thinking of others, such as my friends and brothers in Hong Kong and of the health of my Sifu, Grandmaster Ip Chun.

Do not worry, as far as I am aware he and his wife are fine, it is just that I often think of that wonderful quote he gave:

“You do not stop Wing Chun because you got old,
You got old because you stopped Wing Chun”

At 95 years of age he was still so active and fit, still going to the VTAA to teach most days and still even playing Chi Sau, I worry that this virus keeping him from his training may take its toll.

Happy times, back soon I hope

In this difficult time we share our joys and a time we share our sadness, and it is important that we look out for each other and that we keep strong, together.

Tomorrow night sees the start of our live-stream classes inclusive for all full memberships of wingchun.online and is something I know Master Ip Chun will be very proud of.

I’m not expecting him to login though!

So let’s enjoy the highs when they are there, and if they are not, they will be again soon.

And let’s be there for each other when we need a helping hand.

Keep training, keep strong and keep safe, and soon we will be through the other side.

They say:

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”

Well let’s hope that’s true eh?

Much love to you all.
