Happy 98th Birthday Sifu!
Happy 98th Birthday to my Sifu and my friend,
Grandmaster Ip Chun!
Although I have posted this message (almost identically) in the past,
The sentiment has not changed therefore neither should the words.
My Dear Sifu,
May I start by thanking you for all the fun times you have shared with me, as well as sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience.
I simply cannot thank you enough for the kindness and generosity you have shown me through all these years and of course for initially inviting me to train directly under you in Hong Kong way back in the 1980’s.
The nerves I had when I first set off from the UK to Hong Kong, on a twenty-seven hour trip via Rome and Bangkok, and all with just a one-way ticket and £200, were soon settled when in your presence.
I have such happy memories of training with you at your home, hour after hour, day after day, week after week, for month after month in those early years.
When you made me your disciple in 1991, I promised to follow you and to promote you and your Fathers Wing Chun, something I have done every day since, and will continue to do.
You have been and continue to be, an inspiration for so many people throughout the world, especially me, through your teaching and dedication to the art.
You once said to me:
“I have taught thousands of people, but I have a very few students”
I am so proud that you have always called me, one of your students.
May I wish you health and happiness on your special day and I look forward to seeing you (and Si-Mo) again very soon.
Your ever loyal disciple,
Colin
