Fast Track Training

So, how does the SOLO fast-track course work and how far can I go with it?

Details on the usual fast-track will follow but first let’s discuss what the solo idea is all about.

We are looking for a select group of students to be pioneers in this first of its kind journey, taking Wing Chun all the way to the top, but solo, delving further into elements of the system which many overlook.

When I first encountered Wing Chun, back in 1982, I, like most people, I was greatly interested in the street, combative, self-defence elements of the style, but even then, very quickly I knew there was far more to this than met the eye.

It seemed that every man and his dog had watched Bruce Lee movies and wanted to be like him, although at that time, very few knew of his teacher, Ip Man (Yip Man).

Little did I know that, not only would I soon get to know of him myself, but that I would be invited by his eldest son, Ip Chun (Yip Chun) to be his disciple in Hong Kong!

It is true that Wing Chun is a great form of street self-defence, but that should not be your only reason for learning it:

“Do not train your Wing Chun purely to fight, if so,

you may train for ten or twenty years for a fight that lasts just a few seconds.

Or it may be that you practice all your life for a fight that never happens!

But then again, you may train for just a matter of months, and it could save your life”

Ip Chun

Wing Chun will train your mind and your internal health too, as well as general mobility.

Someone once asked Master Ip Chun, if Wing Chun was a hard or soft style of martial art, to which he answered, ‘It can not be categorised as either because it is both, it can be soft on its movement but hard on its impact’.

Wing Chun is unique, and for so many reasons, its basis being on ‘Conservation of energy’ and ‘Minimum movement’, with no kicking needed above the waist, that it can be studied at any age (Grandmaster Ip Chun was still teaching/training in his late 90’s, he is now aged 102!), and also, Wing Chun being the only style to be invented by a woman, to name just a few of its points.

“You do not stop Wing Chun because you got old,

You got old because you stopped Wing Chun”

Ip Chun

When people think of learning Tai Chi, QiQong (Chi-Gung), Aikido, Hapkido, Wu Shu and the likes, their main reasoning is not usually for fighting reasons, so why does it always get labelled as such in Wing Chun?

In 1989 Wing Chun helped me through cancer, when I dropped from 14 stone down to 7, due to a tumour the size of a golf ball inside my head.  Battling major surgery twice (in both cases being give the last rights and requested to, ‘Get my affairs in order’, going through five operations (two of which being involving untested ideas), and then having the maximum dose of radiotherapy.  At this time, I was told I would lose my hair, I did not, in fact my hair got thicker, andmy health improved.

We have testimonials from students who have use WingChun.Online to help them with Aspergers, PTSD, depression, dementia, trauma and physical rehabilitation, and it for these reasons that I think Wing Chun should be used for far greater purposes than just the possibility of a Saturday night punch-up.

Through our training we will approach self-defence concerns, with specially designed training methods that not only develop the reaction skills, but also how to spot and avoid needing to use them.

At the close of your fast-track training course, we will continue to help you study, to gain an even deeper understanding of your abilities, and of your true potential.

At this time, what you then decide to do with this knowledge is up to you, and remember, we will still be there to help and guide you in your plans should you wish to help and train others.

In Asia, this would be described as you ‘Sharing your experiences with others’, in Western society, this may be termed as, teaching.

We are about sharing Wing Chun for its health and wellness qualities, rather than promoting it based on its combative elements.

If this appeals to you, do it, take that first step, get in touch via the members forum of contact Sifu Ward direct.

This course is planning to start in November, acceptance is NOT guaranteed, and numbers will be limited, so don’t wait, act now.

Fees for this course, will be required (after acceptance), in two instalments, $1,000 during October

and the balance of $950 to be paid on the 1st November.

As always, the reason for early payment is simple, we need to know that you are committed to learning, as much as we are committed to teaching, allowing us to focus on what is important, getting you trained.

An introduction to WingChun.Online

Before we get into the details, please allow me to explain the reason behind creating WingChun.Online in the first place.

I had my first taste of Wing Chun in 1982 and fell in love with the style, although at that time was slightly more focussed on completing my Black belt training in Shotokan Karate, so it was not for a few years more that I fully committed myself to Wing Chun.  It was in the mid-eighties when I first met Master Ip Chun at his first UK seminars and a friendship began to grow between us, in 1989 he invited me to Hong Kong to train under him directly and in 1991 was invited to become his disciple (closed door students) and world representative (one of only thirteen at that time).  In that same year, Sifu asked me to return to the UK and open a school to pass on his skills.  Over the following thirty-plus years we helped to opened dozens of schools, teaching thousands of students, Ip Chun Wing Chun.  Classes were great, however the issue was, that I was limited in how far I could spread the Ip Chun / Ip Man Wing Chun, while staying on a one-to-one level, and so in 2009 work began on WingChun.Online, all with Grandmaster Ip Chun’s blessing and full backing.

The initial idea was to support those already attending schools, to give them additional access to training, rather than the usual single weekly class, this way learning Forms, footwork and techniques online, then using their school time to practice their partner training.  However, during the early years of WingChun.Online being live, a new kind of student emerged, one with requirements not previously fully appreciated, students who simply did not have access to a school, or, even have anyone to train with, and so we started to cater for these requirements through our solo training programs.

Remembering of course that there is so much more to Wing Chun than just the self-defence side, such as internal health, general mobility, core strength, leg development and much more.  Wing Chun has helped people in ways, as far from street defence areas as you could imagine, for example, giving focus to people suffering with ADHA, with mental interactions having been shown to slow the onset of dementia, the movements in Formwork assisting in recovering from strokes and to regain mobility after an accident, to name just a few.

We do however insist that you check with your doctor before undertaking any training, especially if you have any concerns or severe restrictions in movement.

So, what is the Fast-Track course?

Before we get into the details of what this course is, let’s take a moment to understand why we started these courses at all.

You may have heard the expression, ‘It takes 10,000 hours to master anything’, well, this may be so in some basicthinking, but the truth is, this number is ridiculous, because if we are to truly master something, this would never end, therefore putting any time frame on this is wrong.

“The man who claims to know all for his learning has ceased”

Confucius

Bearing this in mind, we are not expecting you to master the whole Wing Chun system in one year, but rather to teach you the whole system in one year, then allow you to explore this further yourself.  Indeed, this is the same thinking behind the six-month course, to learn the hand Forms, understand them, and then to put into practice their benefits as you grow through your experiences.

This deeper exploration can either be done through you sharing your skills with others (possibly through teaching), or by continuing your journey with us, although ideally both, with us continuing to train you, and assist you with class drills, partner exercises and teaching techniques etcetera, and being there for you when you are faced with those challenging questions.

Back in 1990, Grandmaster Ip Chun explained to me the 50% of your training will come from your Sifu, and 50% will come from yourself, well this is what we encourage at WingChun.Online, to give you the perfect blueprint for you to work with through our 50% and allowing your Wing Chun to grow through teaching within your 50%.

The reason for the Fast-Track course

“Youth is wasted on the young”

George Bernard Shaw

A statement I totally agree with!

Why spend decades trying to learn something, only to get to the point that when you want to reap the benefits, you’re too old to do so!

In 1989, after a massive nosebleed had me hospitalised for a week, I was diagnosed with cancer, having a tumour the size of a golf ball inside my head.

To remove this took five operations, two bouts of major surgery (in both cases, given the last rights), and in addition, the maximum dosage of radiotherapy, accumulating in being bed-ridden for three months and dropping from fourteen stone down to just seven stone.

The moment the doctors gave me the all-clear, I raised £200 and bought a one-way ticket to Hong Kong, ready to start my training under Grandmaster Ip Chun.

What that stage in my life taught me, was do not waste time, if you can do it now, DO IT, because we never know what tomorrow has in store for us if it is even there at all.

Too many instructors hold students back unnecessarily, telling them that they are not ready yet, that they need more time on Siu Lim Tau, not moving them on quickly enough (even if their abilities demand it), sometimes holding back Chi Sau moves purely to keep the teacher as top-dog, and so on.  This is not right and is often only done by the teacher to keep the student supressed and, keep paying fees.

Even if you are training now, and happy with your teacher, what is wrong from learning from others too, only a bad instructor would not have your best interests at heart.

So, if you can learn the whole system in just twelve, or even six months, all Forms, all the details, and applications in both street and Chi Sau, why not?

Life is too short to drag things out unnecessarily.

How does the Fast-Track work?

An intensive course over a twelve-month period for the full system (or just six-months for the hand Forms method), requiring four private lessons per week, and two livestream interactive classes, taking you from absolute beginner, right through the entire Wing Chun system to its most senior level.

At the end of the course, what you choose to do with these qualifications is up to you, including teaching!

You may know that our first Fast-Track course through WingChun.Online started in January 2024 and was open to individual one-on-one tuition, now though we have gone back to teaching ‘Old school’, so what do I mean by that?

Well, every Fast-track course I have run over the last twenty-plus years, has been through a private group class, of either four or six students in each group, never through one-to-one tuition.  One benefit of this was the interaction through dialogue, breaking things down into fine detail each technique, as well as feeding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, a tried, and tested method.

What is the six-month course?

With the new Fast-track structure we will be covering, in fine detail, the three hand Forms in its most original format.  Meaning that when taught and trained properly, the whole system, and its applications, can be fully understood, providing the fullest rewards, and with zero equipment needed (no Dummy, no Knives, no Pole).  Of course, these Forms can be added to your skill set later, through the basic studies of our extensive video library (550+ video classes), with further fine-tuning of these areas when you feel ready.

Not only will you be learning the Forms and their applications, but everything that goes along with them, Drills, Stepping, Kicks, Stances, Chi Sau, Street-work, as well as street psychology and even teaching techniques, should you later wish to pass these skills on to others.

Do I need a partner?

At WingChun.Online we offer a very simplistic and easy to follow path to learning the entire Wing Chun system, taking you from complete beginner all the way to the most advanced level and beyond, but, before we get into how this will be achieved there is a question you need to answer, and that is, “What is your reason for wanting to learn Wing Chun?”

There are two trains of thought available when it comes to you wanting to study Wing Chun, either for internal health and wellness, or for street self-defence.

Over the last thirty-five years my association has seen the opening of many schools, teaching more than 10,000 classes, to thousands of students, and as with most students, a beginner will likely be drawn to the martial arts because of their wish to learn self-defence, to be able to protect themselves and their families against any possible would-be attackers.  Now I am not going to put these people down, I started my training back in the 1970’s for the same reason, however, I will say that this should not be your only reason for wanting to study the beautiful art of Wing Chun.

Partner requirements such as Drills, Chi Sau, Sparring and even Fighting principles are not the only elements to Wing Chun, they are just some of its many benefits.

In fact, training with only this in mind can be such a waste.

Master Ip Chun once said to me:

“Do not train your Wing Chun purely to fight, if so,

you may train for ten or twenty years for a fight that lasts just a few seconds.

Or it may be that you practice all your life for a fight that never happens!

But then again, you may train for just a matter of months, and it could save your life”

Of course, there are great benefits to be had from learning one of the most dynamic and practical street fighting systems around, certainly if you are to be defending yourself against the bigger, stronger opponent (as this is the idea behind Wing Chun’s fighting principles).

But as I just mentioned, this fight may never happen, but what we do know, is that there are personal battles we need to prepare for daily.

We need to be aware of our personal well-being, to have peacefulness and harmony, strength, and mobility, all of which can be found within Wing Chun’s hand Forms.

The fact that we do not use kicks above knee height and do not rely on muscle strength in our power, means that this can be trained by anyone, the young or the old, male or female.

Master Ip Chun’s Wing Chun has seen him with great health, right up to 100 years old!

“You do not stop Wing Chun because you got old,

You got old because you stopped Wing Chun”

Ip Chun.

So, let’s look at what we need and what we need right now, internal health, energy, focused breathing, leg strength, good posture, hand and eye coordination, body mechanics and suppleness, and the ability to concentrate and even meditate, all of which are to be found, in a correctly trained and fully understood Siu Lim Tau (Little Idea Form).

Adding to this training, hand techniques being used in combinations, used in conjunction with turning stances and stepping etc. will all help to keep the mind active and strong as well as the body.

So, for those of you who really do want to learn Wing Chun but simply have no partner, do not be disheartened, you can still excel in learning the entire system, by way of the personal development path, then, when you do find yourself in a position to either join classes, find a partner, or choose to form your own training group, the transition from one to the other will be easy, especially with our assistance.

So, what does it cost?

Before making any payments, a free one-hour introductory session will be offered to serious applicants, to allow both student a teacher, the chance to better understand each other’s needs and goals, making sure we are all on the same track and with complete transparency throughout.

If accepted, the fee for the twelve-month Fast-track course, is currently just £6,000 (sterling), to be paid in three stages, 50% before full-time training commences, and the remainder in two payments over the following two-months during training.  The reason for the early lump sum payment is simple, we need to know that you are committed to learning, as much as we are committed to teaching, allowing us to focus on what is important, getting you trained.

Our six-month course is currently £3,000 (sterling).

NOTE:  These fees can be halved when (and if), the same time slots can be shared from the start of the course, with another student.

If your course is to be shared with fellow beginner Fast-track students, time slots will be decided jointly prior to starting, depending on who else is in your group, and their relevant time zones.

Numbers are limited and some WingChun.Online experience is required

(Subject to acceptance)

Note:

Being a world representative of Grandmaster Ip Chun, does mean that your certification (from me), will be Hong Kong recognised and respected on the world Wing Chun platform.

Over the last 25 years, all who have taken this course, have successfully reached their goal and completed their targets.

The Fast-Track fees DO NOT include your online classes.

The WingChun.Online training is a separate issue but also essential to aid in this course.

WingChun.Online is where you will find most of your training to study, with our private classes looking at the refining of this training, with additional info and further understanding as we move along.

Do also remember that your training will not only focus on how you learn, but how you will teach others as well, therefore some areas of training may (from time to time) feel a little taxing for your abilities but may not for your students.

Holidays and breaks

Yes, sometimes this will obviously occur but do not worry about this too much, we will simply work around it when it happens.

The thing here is that I have set time span in which to get you to achieving your goal, getting you to the most senior level and passing all the necessary assessments along the way.  In doing so there will be times when we run a great deal of repetition, there may be times when we skim over stuff, and there may be times when we run over our time or even add sessions on.

The four sessions per week could be thought of as a guide, simply allowing me to break down checkpoints along the way making sure we are always on track to our final goal, and that you are happy with your level of understanding along the way.

My hope is that we will also meet in person and use this time to better understand the internal elements (knowing what energy is and how it feels in Chi Sau etc.), so that when you are back on your screen, you will know exactly what I am referring to.

Again, once payment has been made and we know you’re committed to the program, we will start to break down where we feel you are now and what path to take to reach these goals, again, using the four sessions per week as a guide for time limit purposes.

The Wing Chun System Includes…

Explosive Energy

Working on short-range attacks

Straight Line Punches

The shortest route between you and your opponent

Relaxation

Reacting faster without muscle mass slowing you down

Being Ambidextrous

Using both arms equally – adopting a square-on approach also helps you to not have a bad side during a fight situation.

Kicking Mainly to the Knees

Head height kicks are often telegraphed, and why use your lowest weapon for your highest target, this would be like trying to punch the ankles!

Conservation of Energy

Not dancing on the spot while you wait to see what happens, only use power when it is needed

  • My name is Joey Johnson I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I have been doing Wing Chun for around a decade. However after a solid review of your site I have decided to start over with your system, all the way from beginner. I believe by doing this my Wing Chun knowledge and skill will reach higher levels than possible before. I really like the way you teach and the detail that is provided. So just wanted to say thanks for all the great info!

    Joey Johnson Denver, Colorado USA
  • “For me Wing Chun is an approach, a simple philosophy of fighting, which uses a few basic principles and applies them in complex situations, allowing you to react in the correct way in a stressful combat situation. This can be then practiced in a safe environment with your extended student family.

I am now living in Switzerland and running my own small school of dedicated students in order to have some arms to train with, and I have found the training videos an invaluable resource of training material. The online drills and lectures can be given to students to watch, be given as particular exercise to study at home, and then when next in class this can be taken further by the teacher! I highly recommend the online study resource material to students irrespective of level.”

    David Young Zürich, Switzerland
  • “I had been searching for the right type of martial art for a while when I learnt about Wing Chun Kung Fu; unfortunately it was difficult to find a reputable Sifu within traveling distance. But thanks to Wing Chun Online I am able to get tuition on demand; I can even rewind Sifu when needed!

Wing Chun is an art rather than a sport and not only it keeps you fit; but it teaches you to relax so as to be more efficient physically as well as mentally. So now you can learn Wing Chun under the very Grandmaster Ip Chun’s lineage wherever you live.”

    Cedric Achure Vierzon, France
  • So far I am enjoying the process and have never gone away from a session at which all my questions were not answered. I am excited to get home and work on more progression.

    Lester Fichtner Texas, USA
  • “I started training in martial arts as a child and like a lot of people, I took Karate and Taekwondo but as I got older I didn’t feel that these were right for me. When I looked into Chinese Kung Fu I discovered Wing Chun and it changed my life from the moment I saw it. Something about it resonated with me and I have never looked back since. I have been a student of Wing Chun for nearly 11 years now and I think the reason I have stuck with it for so long is because it is not just a Martial Art, but a metaphor for life. I found from the first day I started training that Wing Chun’s fighting philosophy can actually be applied to everyday life.

If you want to learn an effective and complete Martial Art system or are simply interested in getting yourself healthy and boosting your self confidence, you can find it in Wing Chun.”
