Do Not Let It Go

What have YOU lost?

It’s worth a thought.

We’re all born with abilities, but we let them slip away.

When we watch our babies rolling around on the floor, how often have we seen them effortlessly put a foot in their mouths, or even around their heads!

Can you do that?

You can make a baby do the box splits, no problem, just like you once did, but I bet you cannot now.

I once attending a ‘Safety at work’ day, where the instructor, shows you how to lift a box, “Knees bent, back straight”, and when you try it, it may feel kind of odd.

The interesting thing about the video we had to watch demonstrating this (yes, you read that right, a video on lifting a box), we watched toddlers playing, running around, picking things up and putting them down again, and guess what, this was just as what the toddler did, Knees bent, back straight, the fact is, we all know this, and we all have these skills, we just let these things slip.

‘I used to be able to do that’, ‘I used to be able to do the splits’, ‘make high jumps’, ‘run fast’, ‘get high scores’ etc., how many things did you used to be able to do, that you no longer can?

You can’t do these things so well now because you stopped doing them, when really you should be better because you’re stronger.

Sir Ken Robinson (who you may know from TED Talks) made me laugh, he said:

“When I was a child, I got a guitar at exactly the same time as Eric Clapton did,

Well he did quite well with his”

He said,

“But mine didn’t seem to work,

no matter no matter how hard I blew into it”

Often, it just takes that one break too many, or for too long of a break, to let things begin their decline.

If you find your Wing Chun is stagnating, stay with it, you are just letting yourself gain mileage, or if you like, resting before the next big push.

And if this push, is not presented and encouraged by your teacher, then look for it yourself, this is what we encourage at WingChun.Online, how to look deeper into your Forms and extract more from them, this way you gain a greater understanding of what works, and more importantly for some, why your Wing Chun is not currently working as well as it could for you.

Because that is the secret, if you understand how something works, then you make it work better, for you.

My Sifu, Grandmaster Ip Chun says:

“We do not stop Wing Chun because we got old,

We got old because we stopped Wing Chun”

So, stay with it, what seeds we are sowing today, will take time to flourish, so be patient and enjoy the now, instead of always wanting the immediate results.

Your skills have always been there, and still are if you want them, you just need a little time to allow them to shine through.
