Are We Being Prejudice?

Are you being prejudice?

I know I am.

WOW!

What a statement to begin a blog with eh?

But, I don’t mean that quite how it sounds.

I guess what I mean is, like that of having a coffee and people watching.

Example:

The other Sunday I went to collect my daughter, who had been on a Scouts camping weekend, and as all the other parents arrived to collect their little burdens, I couldn’t help watching them, what they were driving, what they were wearing, how they carried themselves and interacted with others etc., and as I did this, I was thinking…

‘That guy is dressed smart, he must be successful and live in a big house‘, or, ‘That guy is a bit scruffy and must live in a rough area‘ etc, and I hated myself for this, simply because it had seemed to go beyond that of just people watching, but assessing them, and what right did I have to do that?

I often think of, if a pop start walked into Harrods looking like a tramp, we’d be saying how cool they looked, but surely that’s only because we know of them (and their wealth), whereas, if the normal guy off the street were to walk in dressed like that, there may be some questioning, why is this?

For all we know, it may be that they own the building!!!

Or when a bodybuilder walks into a room, others would be sizing him up, or feel threatened perhaps, why is this?

I think the answer is exactly that, that we feel threatened, and why?

Because of our own insecurities.

This is similar to the class system, working class people are always told to know their place, only speak when spoken to, to doth your cap to the higher classes etc, which is why tensions build up, and when the working class DO finally get to say their piece, it is through shouting and loud demonstrations.

The upper classes would never shout or even need to raise their voices, why, because the people from Eaton, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and the like, have been raised to believe that they should be listened to, and therefore demand it.

My point here is that it is not about wether you are working class or middle class, rich or poor, and it is not about wether or not you feel threatened, it is about how comfortable you feel within, and about, yourself.

This too can be stretched to Wing Chun, why people are discouraged to think for themselves, or see what else is out there.

Maybe your teacher has told you that it’s their way or the highway, in such a manner that it keeps you in your place and prevents you questioning anything that others may have to offer.

At WingChun.Online we are balanced, and teach to the needs of the individual, what are you afraid of, scared you might learn something new?  🙂

So be happy with who you are, with what you’ve got, carry your head high and be confident in yourself, then you won’t be worried to explore your true potential, in everything you do.

Thanks for listening to my little rant.
